The AAC received peanuts for the TV deal the past six years, so that wasn't why Memphis football improved over that time. As for exposure, that's far less valuable these days, because basically everyone has exposure these days, you can find anyone's game somewhere on cable or streaming.

OTA exposure still trumps streaming. Rudd was on the radio last summer saying the donor who initially got exposed to UM and the city via football has developed into great partner bringing others on board. IIRC, the original donation was $3M mostly to academics. Highly unlikely that happens via streaming only as he wasn’t seeking out Tiger football and had no connection to Memphis. I realize this most likely isn’t a common situation, but it can happen.

I'm not sure about that. Stuff like Netflix and Disney+ are ubiquitous these days, the general public has gotten highly used to streaming, and sports fans are in the vanguard of that.

Five years ago it was a big deal if your games were relegated to ESPN3 because familiarity with streaming was relatively low, and it usually meant watching on your phone. Now thanks to the takeoff of streaming services everyone knows how to stream, and smart TVs, Roku, Fire, Apple TV etc. have made the viewing experience basically identical to cable.

C’mon dude. Streaming isn’t even remotely similar to being on ABC-OTA or even ESPN2. We are nowhere near that point yet.

Depends on the sport. For Pro football, OTA reigns supreme if your team is in the local market. For College Football, OTA are theoretically the best matchups. For anything else, OTA doesn't matter and you either need a subscription or streaming services (at that point there isn't much of a difference).
