Notre Dame's name is getting thrown around online, but there are probably a half-dozen schools or more you could do that with and make it really attractive. I'm happy the AD realizes they can do some really interesting things with scheduling if they heavily leverage NYC and/or Boston.

Benedict has really impressed me as an AD in the past few months. I was skeptical to his fit coming from an SEC Football-dominant school, but he seems to truly understand the advantages that basketball can have toward helping improve football.

Notre Dame would obviously be a great get for Yankee Stadium (which is something they have done there in past few years as part of Shamrock Series). ND would likely not agree to anything in the next couple of years, but likely several years down the road as part of such an agreement.

I would not be shocked if it ended up being a B1G team, such as Michigan, Michigan State or Ohio State. Each program has strong alumni in the NYC area, and would hold a dual benefit for football and men's basketball, IMO.

I don't see any Big Ten football teams being interested in this.

Basketball season starts when? In late November? Big Ten football teams are pretty much committed to conference play in late November and early December.

Plus Notre Dame football always plays its last game on thanksgiving weekend in California. Why would they want to turn around and play in a baseball stadium in New York a week later or maybe a week earlier?

I just don't think most of the midwestern Big Ten schools in this two sport showdown would be a big enough deal in NYC (even with a decent amount of Big Ten alums there). The only two Big Ten schools that could work in my opinion would be Rutgers (as they are local) and Maryland (since they are good at hoop and the basketball game will probably matter more than the football game to locals if the location is New York City).

The best matchup is Syracuse. UConn and Syracuse both have tons of alumni in the NYC area and the matchup of these schools would energize New Yorkers who aren't alums of either school. Syracuse vs. UConn has "New York City" written all over it.

+1. Syracuse makes the most sense. Rutgers would be logical - but won't get the fans very excited for either sport. Perhaps Duke might work?

We're not drawing flies right now thanks to the Flood/Ash/Herrmann disasters but we could play the game on Randall's Island and maybe fill the venue. For basketball it would be interesting since our coach is a UConn alum.
