I loved Schor. He was a good QB. His senior year he seemed to throw an interception in every game. He was fortunate to have the best defense in FCS to cover up those passing errors. Nooch had two bad games last year. Nooch is having a good season to date. He is currently playing as well as any QB in the CAA. If folks are looking for perfection, it is very unlikely at this level of football. Purple’s assessment of Nooch is accurate. The criticism of him is unfair. We are lucky to have him.

oh man. I don’t want to go this way and make a schor vs. Ben debate again, because Ben is our guy now and played really well last week and schor is in the past.

But there is no comparison to the two.

QBs are judged highly on stats, making plays in big games and leading a team to wins. More so than any other player.

I rewatched our win over ndsu in 2016 a month or so ago. There were throws and plays in that game that I don’t think Ben could have made.

The scramble under duress and long throw to Davis. The scramble and dump off to miller that turned into a huge gain. The third/fourth read to Khalid for a TD. And of course the clincher to Miller at the end.

And let’s not forget, if Stapleton doesn’t fumble, we don’t miss a fg, the duke wr (forget his name, eh) doesn’t drop a sure touchdown....then schor leads us to back to back titles and loses only 1 game in two years. Incredible. And damn near impossible to match. Schor will be on top until we see someone repeat that kind of standard.

All good points DD. Schor like Cawley seemed to elevate his game at crunch time. He and Cawley are my two favorite JMU QBs of all time.

Schor wasn’t the same QB in 2015 when he replaced Lee likely because the team around him wasn’t as good. He went 2-2 to end that season then loss by 14 to Colgate in the playoffs. Sound a little like Nooch’s year last season? My other point was that the team around him including the defense was pretty special in 2016 and 2017. The 2016 receivers never dropped a pass. In 2017, there was at least 9 dropped passes in the championship game. The defense that year was the best one ever in JMU history.

Nooch has not yet had the supporting cast that Schor had. One guy can’t win it by himself. How far JMU goes this year will depend on the supporting cast as Nooch can’t win it all by himself. He is playing well enough to win it all if the rest of the team does their part.
