RE: NJIT
I get tired of past DAC Pack members criticizing current members/leadership. It seems to come up every year.
You know what will bring out a full and enthusiastic student section? Winning. End of story. You can’t expect kids to come out for a bad team on a campus that traditionally has zero school spirit. Some of them barely know what a winning record looks like.
What kind of support are they getting from the athletic department? I hope it’s decent.
That all being said...I feel like the concept of a student section has run its course. It’s going wrong at the high school level. Every game I go to...I get there early for a good seat only to be surrounded by standing students. It’s like they follow me. They’re great at looking the part with white outs or theme night...but they have no clue what to say. The dreaded “you can’t do that” chant is unfortunately all they can ever organize. I was telling Hazleton kids who surrounded me at a state playoff game they need to do “defense” every possession and they looked at me like I was crazy. It was only the state playoffs you know? Their pajama theme was on point though!
Eventually one loud mouth threatens to fight a kid in the opposite student section but clearly had no intention of fighting anybody unless it’s via Facebook or tweet. I try not to get into all this millennial criticism but I fear for our future a little more every time I go to a high school game. No cohesiveness. Spirit is fake. We can all learn from Japanese baseball fans.
