I am a graduate of BSC. I attended 1985-89. They were NAIA at the time and moved to NCAA D1 in 2001 and D3 in 2007, which is when they launched football.

The guy who was president when I was there retired in 2004. He was very good at his job and a nice guy. His replacement made a mess of things and I suspect that was part of the reason they moved to D3 which they said was for financial reasons.

After that president left they hired a retired four star Marine general as president. I think he got them back on track but went downhill after he left.

I saw a piece on the news last night where the current president said they were safe through the end of the semester but mumbled about what would happen after that. If I were a senior I’d really be worried they might shut down over Christmas. They have an endowment, at least do something for upperclassmen.

Who knows about staff. They had around 1,500 students when I was there. The campus is a gated community in a not so nice part of Birmingham. (There is a literal gate surrounding campus). So the whole place still needs maintaining. But I would imagine they could close some unneeded dorms. They dropped some majors a few years ago to save money. But getting rid of faculty probably isn’t easy.

I didn’t really enjoy my time there (long story) and wish I had gone somewhere else. But I hate to see them close.
