I really hate that the state did this. It only encourages more states to start doing this in the future and puts the fate of private colleges into the hands of public bureaucrats who are generally against private schools to start with in many circumstances.

Right before students come back=right before money flows in. Judging a schools financial position this way is wrong. There may be more to the story that isn’t revealed, but I doubt there is too much more.

The fact that their service providers allowed them defer payments is actually a good thing. They were expecting to still collect their money owed. Now, the state has decided for them and everyone owed money will be out of luck. The timing of this is is pretty shameful.

Outside of a tiny handful of for profit schools that are shooting for one last money grab, schools not being able to make it thru the semester is extremely rare. And that is their supposed motivation to close them, that they might just close mid semester, not be able to award credits, close, and keep students money.

The state of the population of West Virginia have? They have so many private schools. They would be saving money if these schools merge with each other than being separate. Plus, states are not there to bail out private schools who recklessly not open their doors to non-traditional students, and spend too much money especially on sports.

Unless you're going to a hybrid or total online model to attract non-traditional students, there isn't enough of a base within a reasonable driving distance to pick from. The existing campus is going to struggle to find a new tenant (like what happened at Mountain State in Beckley a decade ago. )

No disagreement on your conclusion, but WVU Tech now occupies the MSU campus in Beckley. So it's doable. But there are a lot of old campuses out there that haven't done so well.

Quite aware of this (I was living in WV as Mountain State was exploding. My local mall in Martinsburg was owned by the school). But Beckley is a larger and much more accessible location than either Montgomery (where WVU Tech used to be) or Phillipi (Where A-B is.).
