You’re right. The idea of a school that is on the verge flying non revenue D2 sports to Hawaii to compete is insane. When you truly depend on the revenue athletes provided by paying partial tuition, you can’t afford to spend it all on the sports themselves.

These schools would have been better off in the NAIA or even as isolated USCAA teams picking up what games they can as independents. It can be done. Lots of schools do it. And it’s a lot smarter than spending yourselves into bankruptcy running an athletic program you can’t afford. Granted, this school was probably very poorly managed in myriad ways, but athletics is such an obvious one.
