Otherwise, schools that are in good shape and have been adding new programs and growing don't voluntarily betray their historic mission as a Methodist college and shut down after over 150 years.

Ah, looked further and see that UT system was interested in taking over and expanding the MMC nursing program, by the President offered the whole school and he will then become a Chancellor in the UT system.

It smells very bad. Hopefully they have some alums that will challenge this. If they don't, then good riddance to a school that even their own grads don't care about.

They have stated they will possibly look at a new athletic affiliation in the future.

Not a done deal yet. Non-binding agreement. Approval needed by both boards. I suspect the MMC alumni will screen bloody murder.

UT-Pulaski? Martin Methodist happens to not be in the town of Martin, home of UT-Martin and located near the Kentucky border. So, UT-Pulaski would make the most sense for the name of such a school.

But...if the school isn't in danger of going under, the alums should scream bloody murder. This looks like a situation where the administration is maneuvering themselves into some nice positions in the UT system. And, the local Methodist bishop is on board. According to the church news article linked above, this would be the third Methodist school in Tennessee to close in recent years.

However...if this merger doesn't go through, the president and administration will be looking for other jobs.
