USA just added a commitment from an offensive lineman from Moss Point, MS, Wyatt Green. He will either sign in February or be a blueshirt based on what happens with another recruit or two.

Blue shirt players can sign on Signing Day ... just means they can't come on an official visit so they can count forward a class.

It's a little more detailed than that. The blueshirt rule pertains to "unrecruited" athletes. As in a player that was not provided an official visit to the campus; Did not have in-person, off-campus contact with a coach; or was sent an NLI or other written scholarship offer. You better hope the coach watched the him play or is outstanding evaluating off film. Of course they could always just offer based on the number of stars. You can't go wrong doing that.

Blueshirts are not "unrecruited athletes" We've had a couple kids on visits this weekend that are going to blueshirt. They can take unofficial visits and be recruited like any other athlete. They just cannot have a written scholarship offer, and cannot take an official visit.

On edit: NCAA rules regarding recruiting are strange. Essentially, a player is not recruited unless they have arranged off campus or on campus contact with a coach, or receive a written scholarship offer. Coaches can text, call a player all they want, and "invite" them to take unofficial visits in which they receive the same treatment as any other visiting athlete, they just pay their own way. So I guess in a sense they are "unrecruited" but they really are recruited.

Also, there's a faulty SBNation article out there that indicates blue shirts cannot play year 1. They most certainly can play year 1.
