I think this is what's happening, and it's a sensible strategy. At a school like ours, you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel if you start the process in April. After unsuccessfully trying to convince four of our six best players to stay, the staff correctly decided we don't have any reasonable championship ambitions for this year and swung their limited resources towards getting in early on some good 2020 guys. It sucks for Nate and Andy, who have been prepping for this year to be a title run, and are instead gonna spend it dragging five unproven guys and six guys from your pickup game to ten wins, but...that's not really Dane's problem, because his only focus ought to be the long-term success of the program.

I wouldn't assume that Knight would stay for this. The only loyalty he has is to the hand full of players returning from last year and they aren't going to make him better at practice

Problem is that he can't do anything next year except play for us or go to Europe/the G-League, which are not typically seen as better springboards to a lengthy pro career.
