Absolutely no shot at Beran, definitely going to be either ACC or Big Ten. We started too late in the recruiting process too. In order to really have a good shot at these kids that are basically local, if they've got good grades, are going to private schools, are on honor roll and attending academic basketball camps the Tribe needs to be involved in offering these kids a lot earlier than they do. I think starting a relationship early and showing commitment with earlier offers is a direction that W&, M needs to go. They can't be a 10th or 15th offer to a kid like this. I don't see any downside to it either because it shows that they believe in their talent earlier than other schools, and these kids know that these are still verbal offers.

I'm pretty sure that Tony was physically following and in touch with Beran last summer and wanted to get him on campus this past year, and he was our first and only offer this spring for some time. I'm not totally giving up on that relationship yet, and if he didn't commit when offered this spring he wouldn't have commited early by our offering last summer. He did not have the versatile projection to be a CAA post player last summer, which was the priority in this class with the two limited slots. He grew over the winter. Yes, if Tony did not actually start building that relationship last summer, then we missed it.

No different from having an early relationship with Drew Peterson last year and offering him at the start of his junior year, but it didn't matter. On the other hand, it worked with Jihar who was well under the radar. Beran and Peterson were not totally under the radar early on.

I think Tony and staff have got their recruiting strategy and feel for what and when they need to do it pretty fine tuned, and the commit results appear to get better and better. They know what they're doing better than any of us.

BTW, last time I checked, Nebraska is Big10, and I would be surprised to see Beran there, but you simply never know how individual's connect with a HC and staff. As I mentioned in another comment, I find it interesting how offers pool within a conference and find that questionable regarding a staff's true interest in the recruit. If Beran is primed for ACC and Big10 level, where is the SEC, Pac12, Big 12, Big East, etc. That's not a dis of Robbie's talent and chance to be very, very good.
