And yet the DG bowl apparently won't extend the same courtesy to their hometown team. USA could gain access to another bowl close by if they were able to work with the DG bowl. To me, that's the easiest relationship to fix. As opposed to trying to rally the conference to re-write the bowl selection process. Which could in turn cause the conference to lose a bowl within its footprint.

Best observation and post in this entire thread. The problem lies with the bowl in Mobile and the inability of the PTB at South Alabama to make a case for their presence. Instead, Tom would like to remove the wheels because the car won't start.

Actually, the people at DG won't listen to USA, period. Even if they did, they want to sell hotel rooms, which USA isn't going to ever do in Mobile. But they're creating a potential big problem for themselves. And for the conference. Eventually USA will build an OCS. And then the question of maintenance at a 70 year old stadium with only one potential tenant (I am assuming the Senior Bowl, which only has long standing issues with Ladd, will move to USA's OCS).

So when we build the OCS, and we will, the DG has a choice - it can try to get the city, which is already paying for a duplicative civic arena that is barely used for anything other than Mardi Gras Balls, to maintain a 70 year old stadium for the benefit of only the DG Bowl and 2 public high schools...they can move to another city...drop the Sun Belt tie..or they can negotiate with USA for the ability to rent our stadium, and if so, under what conditions.

BTW, you think Ladd is a terrible stadium now....imagine how bad the DG bowl field will be when the city limps along with 'super basic maintenance'. If you've been to an event in the old Municipal Auditorium in Mobile, you'll see what that's likely to look like.

You could be looking at a situation where USA could basically tell the DG Bowl, we get first pick. And then where would every other team in the conference be besides ULL and USA. In a position where they are looking at a possible bowl choice of 1 ESPN bowl, 1 CBSSN bowl, and an internet only bowl. My guess is that in such a situation, which is forseeable, would be as intolerable to the other 8 teams, as it is to me now.

Guys, if its fair for ULL to basically reserve the NO Bowl, don't complain if USA plays hardball as well.

Lets put some controls on the process now to ensure that all teams have a path to all bowls. And that some equity is introduced into the process. I like the tiered method. If you finish in the top 3, you should be in the top 3 bowls. Then rotate which bowl picks first. But every other team can actually guarantee themselves an ESPN bowl if they perform well on the field. Out of the top 3, you know, you're probably in the worse bowls. And this year...USA would be out of that loop. I'm fine with that.
No Tom, build your stadium and secure your personal bowl so we don't have to suffer through you bitching and crying every year. The DG bowl will just go somewhere else where they still don't want you. So typical, use fear mongering and empty threats to try to get your way...you are so easy to read it's comical. You have zero evidence to back up your "fears". We are now up to 3 bowls, ESPN and your bowl opppnent that don't want you, it's you Tom..not everyone else.

Actually, there were other bowls that wanted us this year.

And the DG Bowl could move. That would be better for USA, but worse for the conference, many of whom like the DG Bowl and going to bowl games in Mobile.

----

Its easier to just fix the stupid system. ESPN Bowls are in a tier. Top three finishers get them. Bowls rotate who picks first within that pool but they have to pick from the top 3. Everyone knows how to get into a ESPN Bowl. And everyone knows if they didn't get an ESPN bowl, why they didn't get one.
All the bowls look at different scenarios...they didn't want you, if they wanted you they would have gotten you...considered you and wanting you are 2 different things. Why don't you go start your own bowl Tom since you have it all figured out and whatever world you live in money is no object. Could be called Tom's bowl, you could host it in lazybrook and call it the the whiners classic. It would be a huge hit I bet and you could put USA in whenever you want.
