What does the bowl rotation look like in the MAC? Any bowl have a monopoly on a particular bowl? Go Daddy - 9 different bowl teams in last 9 years. Idaho? 7 different teams in the 7 years the conference has had that tie in. Camellia? 3 different teams in the 3 years the conference has had the tie in. Bahamas? 3 different teams in the 3 years the conference has had the tie in. And so on and so forth. I couldn't find ANY repeats from the MAC in the last 9 years (I only looked at a few of them). Regardless of whether its stated or not, the MAC de facto rotates its teams to an extent not seen in any other conference.

The MWC has a stated preference for rotation too. There are a few repeats, although the one worst offender, the NM Bowl, has the advantage of having its 'home' team rarely bowl eligible. Rotation seems to work reasonably well in practice, although there is some grumbling by the non-SDSU/Boise crowd.

By the way, the chatter I'm hearing was that USA was actually PICKED by two bowls over two more deserving teams this year and someone intervened. Probably due to geography and OOC record. If they can intervene against USA, they damn sure can intervene to prevent USA from getting screwed in the future by the DG and NO Bowls. I don't see that happening and if true, we have a right to be very concerned. If the rationale is that ULL gets the NO Bowl because the NO Bowl gets to pick, then why can't the Camellia or the Cure Bowl pick any way they choose? USA didn't deserve a top bowl this year. But neither did ULL.

If true, and that would explain why ESPN officially announced USA to the Cure Bowl, there's a real problem here with y'all screaming 'we have to keep the bowls happy' and 'the people complaining are just looking for welfare'.

A tiered system would prevent USA getting screwed by others and USA screwing others. It would also solve the ULL ownership of the NO Bowl problem.

The system needs to be fixed. But fixed in a way that doesn't mean 'go crying to ESPN to try and bully the bowls to the detriment of one team' then allow other teams to retain their protected bowls and allow other bowls to continue to block one particular team. Any solution needs to address ULL's monopoly on the NO Bowl too. There are three 'better bowls' Make them a top three tier.

You need to be fixed

So what is your protocol? It appears to me your protocol is

1) Bowls always get to pick if they pick ULL.

UNLESS

2) They pick USA, then intervention is necessary. And no, ESPN didn't decide to intervene on their own.

Guys, you guys spent all day yesterday screeching about how we should keep the bowls happy...because it helps ULL. And when the Bowls actually picked USA, then its okay for intervention to take place?
Never said that...at all. USA and their fans should suck less so they get picked. We have sat at home bowl eligible more years than you have had a football team. Let the bowls pick, if we don't get picked so be it. If Nola picks someone else and we end up where we, awesome..I'll be there having a blast. You aren't entitled to sht and neither are we. We went to the Nola bowl 4 years at 8-4...this our first time ever going to a bowl at 6-6. We earned it according to the bowl rewuiremts and obviously we earned in the eyes of the Nola bowl with our previous 4 trips. Stop feeling entitled Tom, try sucking less and it will help you for the rest of your life in everything you do. Don't expect things to be given, earn it.

We were picked. By two of the three bowls that we have access to. I guess we and our fans don't suck as much as you think. The problem remains that the league/ESPN intervened to our detriment.

There's a problem here...USA can't go to TWO of our contracted bowls and then has decided to throw the excuse as to why we can't go to TWO of our contracted bowls out the window to exclude us from two other bowls. This is BS.

I'm certainly willing to accept that, IF there is a CONSISTENT, and fairly applied metric based upon conference standing, then fine, send us to Tucson. But this year, there was no metric in place and USA was still intervened against. But no, the rule shouldn't be...ULL has a special set of rules that only apply to them.

And unlike many ULL posters in here, I'm actually advocating for a set of stated rules. Put it in writing. The NO Bowl accepts rules from CUSA, they'll accept them from the Belt.

USA earned the right to go to Montgomery or Orlando using current rules. Just as much as ULL earned the right to go to New Orleans.

You got nothing.
