Marshall fled. They abandoned their old conference and are now paying the price, both in terms of $$$ AND perception. It's Southern Miss and UAB who were abandoned and left stranded on a putrid desert island by their former rivals...THOSE are the teams I actually have some sympathy for. I'd also love it if they JUMPED to the Belt, too.

Of course you would love getting USM and UAB to jump to the SBC, but it isn't going to happen. Fans of CUSA teams are not voicing a desire to join the SBC. No, the title of the lowest ranked FBS conference is still securely in the hands of the SBC. Having said this, I do understand the animosity SBC fans have toward CUSA. It's the same way Marshall, USM, UTEP, Rice, and UAB fans feel about the AAC schools that abandoned them for the AAC. LA Tech fans went through it when the WAC dissolved, so I completely understand how frustrating it can be.

CUSA's demise as a conference, however, is just not happening. The hit we took in TV money will be made up by most of our members by the better attendance we'll get at our games. We'll get much better crowds for games that will now be played on Saturday nights instead of week nights or on Saturdays with 11:00 AM kick-offs. I'm not saying losing TV money is a good thing, but it isn't like $650K is an insurmountable figure that we can't manage our way around. If it was, none of us would belong at the FBS level in the first place.

Like the Sun Belt Conference, CUSA will be fine. We'll just have to adjust to the new world of college sports that we live in today.

There ain't gonna be no "USM join the Sun Belt" or "ODU join the Sun Belt" or Georgia Southern join CUSA.

CUSA fans at risk of drowning in a misty rain because they don't know how to properly point their nose can't grasp what's happened as they view Sun Belt as a stone age backwater.

CUSA got bombed into the stone age. USM and LaTech are behind 7 Sun Belt schools in budget. La.Tech would be fourth in Sun Belt in football attendance. Five CUSA drew less than 18,000 last year, five SBC did as well, except two of those were terminated as members effective the end of the 2017 season.

The per team dollars leans favorable Sun Belt.

There ain't gonna be a Sun Belt or CUSA eventually (oh maybe on documents filed with the NCAA and CFP) but unless CUSA is loaded with Presidents and chancellors who can't read a spreadsheet and don't feel like they need to choose the best economic path, the divorce is being discussed.

No one in Norfolk, Va gives a rats rear end if ODU ever plays Louisiana Tech in any sport... ever. No in San Antonio cares if UTSA plays FIU in any sport, ever.

When there was a million in TV money, you pack the team up and send 'em on their merry way, now it's $200k and less than $100k more than Sun Belt, putting players out of class for more hours, spending more on charters, spending more on road meals to play someone a time zone away that won't sell tickets and won't get the fans interested? That's a special kind of stupid.

Maybe you are right. Maybe CUSA does have the 14 dumbest administrators in the intercollegiate world but history tells us over and over, when situations change, presidents will toss the past aside to get in a better situation and if they are that stupid, then fine keep cutting budgets, keep cutting sports.
