Since there is not much actual journalistic reporting being done these days, people are reduced to raw speculation about players not playing due to 'personal reasons'. Heck for that matter, Women's basketball coaches not coaching for 'personal reasons'.

I'm not saying that media outlets should give every truly personal detail, but if someone is dealing with a health issue (physical, emotional, mental) that's an entirely different matter than, say, something based on rebelliousness to authority, etc.

Why? Why do you feel entitled to know what Jajuan Carr is personally dealing with? The issue here is absolutely not local journalism. If a player is in trouble with the law, ineligible to play due to academics or honor code violations, or if they suspended due to conduct detrimental to the team, their circumstances are fair game. If they're dealing with a personal issue, we have no entitlement to details.
