RE: Expansion remains hot topic in Sun Belt circles

For general sports reporters who don't have a Go5 conference as part of their regular beat, and so who only occasionally write about the Go5 schools, the shorthand for status is going to be number of bowl tie-ins and size of media payouts. That lets you give a quick response with publicly verifiable numbers and avoids a prospective time suck in arguments on the question. Overturning the ranking that comes out of that requires a lot of work and media visibility.
If there's been a shift in relative status that shows up in a shift in relative media payout, then those kind of low-info views will change in reaction to that.
And at the same time, moves like Western CUSA schools bolting become more likely if there is a shift in CUSA payout, in part because of how CUSA exit fees are indexed to CUSA media payout. So the date for those scenarios are 2016 or later to set them in motion, so likely 2018 or later for them to occur.
Any thinking about any kinds of moves along those lines are in "wait and see" mode until the next CUSA contract is negotiated.
