It's a bad idea to even think bout living in towns like Laredo, Brownsville, Del Rio, Eagle Pass or El Paso. Still amazes me UTEP gets recruits. Rather take my chances in the 5th Ward at night with a Rolex on my wrist and a fresh pair of Jordans than get caught in or near the border.

The interior cities are a safe as American cities. The border towns are like the wild west.

Last year in June a neighbor of mine was pre-fishing for a Bass tournament on Falcon Lake near Zapata, Texas. They found an American citizen floating without their head

I was in Laredo in the Spring of 2011 and 11 people were shot in broad daylight near downtown by Zeta Cartel.

Had a buddy that lived in El Paso and worked for a logistics company. He saw a couple of heads sitting on the side of the road on the way to work; I believe that was in 2010.

Another college friend of mine grew up in Del Rio. One of his childhood friends was abducted for ransom money. His parents later got a video of their son getting a drill bit put through his temple. That was in 2008.

These are just some examples that prove American Cities near the border are not safe either. Still very dangerous.

I believe every word you said. The border towns are like the wild wild west and controlled by the drug cartels. I'm talking about major cities like Mexico City and Monterrey. You can safely fly in and out of those cities.

My best friend married a girl from Monterrey back in college and we spent a summer there at their house (Very modest by American standards). It was a wonderful experience accept for the food (We lived off of peanut butter and campbell's soup). Very often we would go to a bar and order a beer and the tender would just gratis. It's very out of the box thinking but wouldn't be cool for us to be the only international conference?
