That's how it works with other conferences. Karl Benson doesn't operate that way. Just look at what he did while in the WAC. He invited teams left and right, even when the answer was a resounding "no".

Now the Sun Belt presidents might have a tighter leash on him, but he's shown that he'll go public before everything is formalized.

These invites are certainly unofficial. I imagine that Benson is very much behind some of the Liberty leaks though.

SBC Presidents have him on a very tight leash. Otherwise, Liberty would have been an SBC team last year.
