Forgive me, I don't follow softball, outside of knowing that its tourney is similar to baseball's.

It didn't have a huge effect on their ranking, but it will diminish their margin for error the rest of the way. SBC softball is not like SBC baseball where there have been multiple post season entries over a several year period, so national respect is greater for baseball than softball. I doubt that South Alabama can afford any more than three more losses the rest of the season, including the conference tournament, if they expect to host a regional.
