Getting a team into the playoffs is one of the most important things a conference can do from a monetary stand point. Contrary to what you might believe, I don't think the selection committee is going to choose a 2 loss SEC team over an undefeated team from any other "P5" conference (regardless of strength of schedule) as such the SEC should consider bringing in more Vanderbilt / Kentucky type schools vs Oklahoma or Texas type schools. You've shifted the argument in consecutive posts in an effort to troll. The SEC will take major brands with solid academics. We aren't taking directional schools, or settling for privates that only carry their immediate area.

I have no problem that you E.C.U. fans dream big. I like E.C.U.. But the SEC isn't taking E.C.U.

You can play cupcakes if you would like, but the truth is the market has shifted again and content will be king of the payday. Bigger brands vs bigger brands will drive the revenue. E.C.U. is a solid very very regional brand. It is not a big brand. And it is definitely not a national brand.

When the SEC expands again one of the two schools will definitely be a national brand and the other at minimum a very strong regional brand in the Southeast. And that's if they aren't both national brands.

E.C.U. is not on the SEC's event horizon yesterday, today, or tomorrow, or for the foreseeable decades to come. But thanks for your interest.

The SEC isn't going after an ACC school. 2010 ESPN was trying to work a deal to land Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Notre Dame to finish out the ACC. The SEC was privy to this deal because we were to get Missouri, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, and N.C. State to complete the markets for the SECN. Two sixteen team super conferences would have then been under ESPN's control and pitted against one another.

The deal fell apart because UNC, UVa, Duke, and Wake were afraid of losing their voting control over the ACC. That's why ESPN has dragged its feet in establishing an ACCN. The SEC otherwise is not permitted interest in ACC schools because ESPN pays us both (SEC&ACC) and doesn't want in house raiding. Therefore no possibility exists for seeking, or landing an ACC school, and needless to say vice versa.

So saying the SEC can't get an ACC school is matter of perspective. Without ESPN's refusal of course we could. The monetary differential alone would be enough. For others it would be a matter of sports emphasis. Therefore to say we can't is a form of a troll. If however the perspective is based on an understanding that ESPN will simply not permit it, it would not be. Since you've demonstrated nothing indicating the network perspective, it was easy to see the remark as one desired to provoke a negative response, which of course is trolling.

I've got nothing against E.C.U., its fans, or their dreams. But our desire to add schools more in keeping with our historical roots is not a slight on E.C.U. But the only scenario IMO where E.C.U. even gets a look is one where the Big 12 expands by 4 or more from the G5 and the P5 situation is cemented long term. Under those conditions it is possible that the Big 10, SEC, and ACC might look at niche markets that could profit them. Under those circumstances only would E.C.U. get a serious look from the SEC.

That said the Big 12 won't survive as a P conference. I seriously doubt they choose to expand and the issue of E.C.U. getting into a P5 becomes moot. We are headed toward a P4 and the numbers may shrink from 65 (counting N.D.) to even fewer.

I had heard some rumblings about a possible ESPN deal but didn't have enough inside knowledge to even pretend to know what the truth behind the scenes was to accurately comment one way or another. (Not sure who would have that info, don't believe it is common knowledge but then I don't follow the SEC regularly). I'm honestly not trying to troll, I just don't believe that in today's environment with the ACC grant of rights etc. I don't believe the SEC could sway an ACC team to jump ship. Even in your scenario above with ESPN brokering a deal it wasn't possible. Keep in mind the only reason this came up is because we were discussing ECU to the SEC and I was repeatedly being told that the SEC would take any number of ACC schools in NC before they would consider ECU to which I responded that I didn't believe that was possible (not today).
