Fun fact, technically Southern Miss has the closest campus to the ocean in the conference. Our Gulf Park Campus (full blown campus, full course load, not a “system school”, same degree and everything) is on the Mississippi Sound.

Additionally, we have courses taught at the Gulf Coast Research Lab, and NASA’s Stennis Space Center (where they test a majority of the boosters for rockets)

Friend's daughter back home wants to be a Marine Biologist. Had her heart set on LSU. Went to LSU toured it, toured the department, then went to USM. Said to her the GP campus was closer and was more hands on.

Plus the Buffets donate to that department for research and all.
