First the brilliance. I never realized how well the new transfer rules will benefit EMU. As other posters previously mentioned, EMU and mid majors will get the benefit of players from high major programs who are transferring for lack of playing time or whatever. These are kids that otherwise have potential but might just need a change of environment or some consistent in-game time to get into a rhythm/ build some inertia/etc. Since they just used up their one time get out of jail card already, they will likely NOT transfer out of EMU.

Conversely, if EMU recruits a freshman who does great for a year or two before transferring up to a high major- I think we will still value that year or two for the EMU program that allowed him to transfer out. I still think EMU should be recruiting high school for those potential gems who will only stay a year or two.

I think the problem in all this, is it just made recruiting that much more complicated. Probably need to add an additional assistant from past norms to handle both the high school side, the transfer side, and the retention side.

You get it. Someone else also 'got it' when they said we'd never been able to do what Ben Braun did in Fall 1991 by bringing in Tolbert, Wilson, etc. and then later Boykins, Dial, Head, Mick, etc. and get them to stay for their 4 years.

In those days, if you had a winning program players did NOT leave.

Now, it is like pro sports, Washington Nationals players won the World Series and a month later some were GONE. Gone. Gone.

Of course it was after the parade. "I love D.C. I love this Team. My family. I'm a Nat for life."

A month later they are gone to Phoenix or Cleveland... 04-chairshot

BTW, for those who are too young (or don't remember) the early 1990s. We went to the Sweet 16 with a senior laden team. BobW can recite the roster: Kennedy., C. Thomas, another C. Thomas, Neely, etc. HOWEVER 1992/3 was a total rebuild. But in those days, a total rebuild frequently bore fruit in say year 3 and 4. Certainly did in our case. Can it again????? I'm not sure.

We will win again, but not with a 90s model of roster development.
