I agree with this. But I think to get the HR hire they need to establish the culture and work environment that a top notch coach would want to work in. That is on the new AD at USC (and next year at UCLA) to establish. Clay Helton is a decent enough tread water coach you can accept while that culture is built.

To try and just get a big name to bail them out is a lot like the NY Knicks in basketball, thinking a hero will save them, and that their brand is all they need to to be a lure. Those days are long gone. You need more than the name.
