It was really just a trade baskets type of game until late. Once Drexel trailed 48-44 with about 8 minutes left, they really turned on the burners both offensively and defensively.
I just wanted to give my opinions on some items related to the non-basketball game presentation.
1. Student section was great tonight, but way too many empty chair-back seat. Not sure of poor attendance will just be the new norm at the DAC, but for a home opener on a Friday night, I was expecting a much larger crowd. There were no events going on in the Hazem suite either tonight, which is usually a popular spot at the DAC.
2. New PA Announcer Kevin Casey was solid. He's a very professional announcer who does PA for the Union, and I think also La Salle. His style isn't much different from Jeff Asche, but with a little more pizzazz and humor. He's also not one of those over the top homers...he doesn't scream when the home team scores and whisper when the visiting team scores. I hate announcers like that.
3. New Pep Band Director - I think that they over played the Drexel Fight Song. They played it instead of the Rocky theme when the players ran out onto the court. They also played it after the victory. I was nervous that they were going to nix Celebrate after the win, but they did play it after the final PA announcements. Celebrate has been a victory staple song at the DAC for years so it needs to continue.
4. Game Day Presentation is still pretty blah. Need a video board badly. Even the Division III gym that hiroshimacarp attends games at has a video screen.
Do you give this feedback to the people in athletics? It seems like everyone has the same opinion and is tired of the ****** attendance...when is someone going to do something?
I don't think I need to give them feedback. They obviously know. What they plan to do about it is another story. I kind of think that they're just sitting back and waiting for a winning team to take care of the attendance problem. I hope this is the year that things turn around. But I'm not convinced that even winning is going to help fill up the chair-back seats, especially on weeknights.
