That's essentially what Mercedes Benz Stadium is right now, it's just not built for baseball. Stick a lazy river in the outfield and have it sponsored by Whitewater. Gold!
Overall, I'm not saying SunTrust was a great idea. Personally, I think they should have built close to downtown, but I just know I've experienced better than Turner Field on a multitude of occasions and I would even say the Georgia Dome was vastly superior.
It's the lack of forethought that gets me. Most every complaint could have been dealt with in a cost effective way if both the Braves and the City of Atlanta had a top flight experience as their priority. I'm not sure what their priorities were, but they seem a little off.
I know every pans the cookie cutter multi-purpose stadiums of the 70-80's, but there was a method to their madness in maximizing facility usage. As for priorities, the Braves and the city relationship was had been in a constant state of deterioration since the Olympics. The Stadium Authority (a tool strictly for funds transfer a sinecure for the mayor) made promises they had no willingness or intention of keeping.
I'll say this, the folks running Atlanta sound a bit like the ones running Birmingham, but I'd still have to give the edge to Atlanta as far as competency. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry about that.
