Prior to the January Virginia Pilot article, most were predicting the value would hold steady or maybe even go up a bit. A handful said it would go down a bit. Virtually nobody said it would be cut by half---and absolutely nobody thought it would be below $500K.

Attitudes didn't start changing until vey early this year. Most everyone realized they would be in for a big cut once the Virginia Pilot article said the revenue would be down. Then a second report a few months later by the Pilot said revenue would be down by about $600K (followed shortly by another piece revealing that the old contract had already been adjusted downward back in 2013---a fact CUSA officials had successfully kept under wraps until the tax documents were reviewed by a columnist). Even the most optimistic CUSA fans became pretty realistic about the new contract once the pieces to the puzzle began to come together in the press. That's why there is no big melt down on the CUSA board. They had almost 6 months to get used to the idea.
