I don't care what other conferences say. Given where we stand today and with the new outlets coming on line the next couple years (Fox Sports 1 / Fox Sports 2) we will be in line for more TV dollars at some point. It isn't like we can get much lower especially if we have a larger footprint come TV talks.
Given that the new MWC deal is only 800k per school plus 1.5 million for the championship game, I highly doubt the MAC is in for the megabucks. Boise State is looking at closer to 3 million because each TV game pays out 300k (figuring 10 televised). The MAC from what I understand also pays for TV appearance.
Both CUSA and the MWC are making roughly the same amount of money per school as what they did with their TV deals back in the 1990's. The Big East will probably break 3 mil per school because of all the metro markets but will also be spinning its wheels money wise.
With the WAC (400k per year) out of the picture and the SBC (100k per year) damaged there is going to be a lot of interest in securing the MAC's inventory. The MAC also offers stability necessary for a long term deal.
Agreed but remind me again how much the current MAC TV contract is worth? Figure UMass and one other team in a new market / region plus our existing lineup and the loss of the WAC and other shifts you mention above and the MAC should be in line for a decent raise. Again the thought here is we basically make nothing from TV now so what we end up with will be an improvement over the current.
The MAC is maybe at right now 200k per school but also pulls a MWC where schools are paid for TV appearances (150k). Also the NCAA money in the MAC is now distributed unevenly. Conference dues are 100k per schoool and they go into the till.
Unequal revenue sharing is good for the Ohio's and the NIU's of the conference who are the benefactors while not as good for Eastern Michigan. This is one reason why you aren't seeing the better positioned MAC schools heading to CUSA.
Then in CUSA where they have equal revenue sharing (though they are changing that now for basketball) it benefits the UTEP's and Rice's of the conference who don't do anything and all of those FCS schools who aren't ready to compete. They would rather stay in CUSA and receive 1.1 mil than to go to the MWC and get pounded by Boise State.
Its getting to the point where the MAC, CUSA and MWC are equals financially and occupy unique regions so unable to take teams from each other.
