If this is true then why all the "WHUP JAX STATE" signatures from everyone over there? I thought we weren't acknowledged?

Oh sure you and I are establishing respect for one another, but that doesn't mean I respect Jacksonville State.

As far as the "Whup Jax State" signatures, I hardly think "everyone" has them. I believe two folks have 'em and those two are members of the Sound from long ago.

If you go to Troy's campus and ask students about Jax State you will get either a blank stare or a shug. The only people who even realize we used to be rivals are the die hards on GTT who have been around since the rivalry was still going. So my post over there was accurate, our younger generation of fans know nothing about yall and don't even acknowledge yalls existence.

Jax State is an afterthought.

Fair point....you must also know that Troy is, as well, an afterthought amongst the students and most everyone but the diehards, maybe except for the band because it will always be a rivalry...Troy and JSU have the best bands in the state. People don't go around the campus greeting each other with a head nod and saying, "whup Troy", but the band for the most part has kept it around. That part will never go away and it is part of JSU's tradition they decided to keep around, as it's more of a shout out to the old days JSU had with Troy's band. My parents couldn't wait to come to the JSU/Troy game just to hear the battle of the bands every year...JSU was sad to see that go when you guys moved up.

Honest question.

If were an after thought then why is the the word Troy automatically causes fury with Jax fans. We also had rivalries with West Alabama once upon a time but we moved on from them also when we moved up. It's no different then how the New Big East teams will treat conference USA teams in the future. Ten years from now Houston vs Rice might be a payday game in the middle of the season.

And next questions you will never see a Troy fan act like a UAB fan who thinks they are above people because of a market. But is it wrong for the school to have moved on? I read some of the post on your board and it seems like a lot of you are stuck in this "well we used to do this and we used to do that mindset" Like I said Troy used to be rivals with West Alabama and like Jax it would hurt our profile to consider either "rivals" anymore. It's not personal it's business, how many FBS schools have a FCS rival besides Temple (that's a special case with Villanova)

You gotta understand that the afterthought comment is regarding the newer generation that doesn't know anything about the JSU/Troy tradition. I think JPSousa summed it up pretty good.

The ones who still say "Whup Troy" are:
1. The alumni, like myself, from before 1990 when the last regular conference game was played. There have been other games, but I believe that 1990 was the last GSC game played. This group is very passionate about JSU's history and also believe that great memories are worth holding onto. That old rivalry is still treasured. Even though a couple games were played after 1990 newer students didn't "get it" when we played you guys again, but the band kept it going because the two single biggest aspects of the rivalry were the football games and the bands.
2. The Marching Southerners .... they still say it because it is more of a tribute to the SOTS for being a very good nationally known band, like JSU's. Those two bands are the best in the state, best in the Southeast, and probably two of the best in the country. I will say that JSU's drumline is one of the best in the nation, and many guys from all over the country go there just to play in that drumline.

About Rice and a payday game....maybe in 100 years, but hell, all they need is a complete make over and they're in it.

On the other question: I get it on the moving up thing and leaving the rivalry behind. I said before that had it been JSU we would have dropped it too, but not the band...it's part of the tradition. Just because we built a bigger stadium doesn't mean that we should expect FBS teams to come play us, and we know that. I also stated that I was unaware of any FBS teams going to play FCS schools. Having said that, if there is an FBS school that will play an FCS school, away, like Temple does, then why wouldn't Troy ever do the it? I know the answer, but some just have a hard time accepting that Troy wants nothing to do with FCS away games. That's where JSU feels that Troy is arrogant, but when you peel away the emotions what you have is that it is a business, and it's not too hard to figure out that a payout to play you guys wouldn't be much and there would be zero payout to play us away. Nobody makes money...

We've moved past wanting to play you guys until we can be invited in an FBS conference. Actually, we're playing 2 SEC teams this year and we believe we'll play respectively, but the real reason why we're playing SEC teams is for exposure, drawing talent, and getting that paycheck baby.... I remember when you guys started playing the big boys, and I respected Troy for that...took a beating in some games and played very well in others.
