The ACC at 18 is regionally specific and viable at 55 million.
Brigham Young and Houston are available to the Western movement. ESPN owns outright all rights while losing a piece of Houston and could still keep BYU as an independent.
Why would the almost the entire Big 12 move to the ACC instead of the other way around?
In this scenario the Big 12 adds: Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Louisville, North Carolina State
Lineup:
UCF, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Christian, Texas Tech, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Louisville, North Carolina State
These schools offer no value:
Boston College, Connecticut, Syracuse, South Florida, Wake Forest.
I still think everyone is sleeping on UCF. All the comparable data on UCF is in a G5 conference. Wait until we start getting numbers from the new Big 12. Will be way ahead of the vast majority of the ACC.
Why? ESPN holds 100% of the ACC's rights. Half plus T3 in the B12.
A few Big12 need to already be in the ACC. WVU and Cincy should be obvious. Perhaps Iowas State also.
That northeast sector of BC, Syracuse, and Pitt a bit, has fallen flat. Even for basketball, overall results have been short on meeting expectations.
The ACC has that 4-school cluster in the State of North Carolina. One, or two of them, need to be housed elsewhere.
Until these matters are addressed through re-alignment and expansion, the ACC will continue with these drawbacks. Alliances won’t fix it. Turning a “conference” into a “division” is not a real, complete solution.
The ACC made this bed and established mechanisms in an effort to make much of their flawed decisions permanent.
I would not put the ACC in the top tier when it comes to long-term strategic decision making.
