RE: Kent State Wrestling 2021-2022
Lost to CMU 32-9
Lost to Ohio 25-10
Lost to Buffalo 27-9 earlier
Lost to NIU 22-10 earlier
That completes getting beat pretty badly by the tradional MAC schools.
Hopefully some of this group of wrestlers will develop but recent history means I can’t be too optimistic. Anybody see it differently.

Coaching and recruiting staff decimated by other opportunities is wreaking havoc. They need to get Nic Bedelyon and/or Dustin Kilgore back here but recent history shows if it costs more than a pack of gum, Kent State isn’t interested.

RE: Kent State Wrestling 2021-2022
Our three highest rank wrestlers in the MAC happen to be in the only 3 weight classes where the NCAA granted only one qualifier to the conference. That means they have to win the championship or at least finish second and hope for one of the 4 wild cards in each weight class. Real chance this year we won’t qualify anybody for the NCAA. If you look at the rankings we are predicted to finish somewhere between 8th and 10th in the 13 team field. CMU appears to be a pretty heavy favorite. Cleve St., Lock Haven, Clarion, Ohio, and NIU should battle it out for second.

Kent doing a little bit better than expected as 7th seed Komara has reached the finals at 149. Right now Lock Haven has a lead with CMU, NIU and Clarion fighting for 2nd. KSU, CSU, Rider, Buffalo and Ohio going for 5th. Consolation matches still going on with finals and placement matches tomorrow.

Well we did a little better than anticipated finishing 7th with 71.5 points just behind Cleve. St. with 73.5 and ahead of Rider with 68.0.
Number 7 seed Komara won at 149 and was the biggest surprise of the tournament for Kent. He has qualified for the NCAA. Other placings
were:
Ferri 125 3rd place
Newell 141 7th place
Christmas 165 8th place
McCracken 184 2nd place (won his true 2nd place match to qualify for NCAA
Bates 197 5th place
Lock Haven finished 1st with 123.5 points and CMU second with 108 points.

Yes, Ohio U finished 9th and Edinboro finished 13th (last).
I think Chrisman would have finished higher if he didn’t get injured. He was on a roll at the end of the season. Fenton was a disappointment and so was Ferree.
MCCracken and Komara got the automatic bids to NCAAs. Ferri and Bates to have to wait til tomorrow for the at large decisions.
1 of Kent States recruits(Eli Ashcroft), won his 4th state title in Missouri yesterday. A lot of KSUs recruits are still wrestling next weekend in their state tournaments. The 2 recruits from Louisville OH both qualified for states, but not sure about the other 10 recruits (there are 13 recruits signed thus far)

KSU Wrestling just got it’s 14th commitment from Joshua Boggen. He is a 197/HWT from
Kalamazoo MI. He has had a lot of good results in a lot of different tournaments.
Redshirt year results for the following wrestlers:
Ashton Breen 184/197lbs - 8 wins 8 losses
Aaron Ferguson 157lbs - 11 wins 5 losses
Enrique Munguia 157lbs - 11 wins 8 losses
Najee Lockett 165lbs - 4 wins 5 losses (injury)
Casey Wiles 141lbs - 7 wins 4 losses

Ferri didn’t make it which doesn’t surprise me since he finished 3rd in a weight class that had only one automatic bid. He wasn’t that highly ranked to pull that off. At 184 we ended up in the in the 32/33 match. Go Komara!!

Komara lost his first two matches and is out. McCracken won a rat tail match and then lost 2. He did score the only point for Kent with the win.
