So to summarize, EMU has 5 commits and will have 13 open scholarships (probably more when a few kids transfer out). Need to get some defenders.

Does this mean Bryant is back for another year? If so, I can't imagine Hutch sticking around.

Keep in mind seniors got a waiver and didn't count against the 85 scholarship cap. So that 13 probably won't be fully replaced.

Last year I remember us being slow out the gates with recruiting and then we picked up steam at the end with some transfers. I wonder if CC is purposely going this route and will fill in 5-6 spots or so with defensive plug and play guys. How about 3 Linebackers, 2 DE and a DL

Agree. I'll check on each later but I'd guess lot are Super Seniors using scholarships which didn't count this year.
EDIT: I have been thumbing throw the list of graduating seniors and I don't think I've yet found one who is NOT a Super Senior.
Based on that I'm NOT surprised that we have a small number of commits. As '79 and I have been saying, this will be a small class UNLESS we have a number of transfer out of the programs, etc.
As I remember it, C.C. continued to add 2021 recruits during spring I doubt he 'pocketed' many scholarships (i.e., be far under the 85 limit excluding Super Seniors).
P.S. Keep in my we have a very deep squad and have plenty of players who are ready to step up, esp. OL, WR, etc. I am very concerned about TE where I see a drop off after the top 2 (Thomas O and Cannon). DL is always a worry and esp. with at least 3 major contributors graduating. We'll see if frosh like Evans and Swindle are as good as advertised. Who knows Evans might be the next Mad Maxx.

We might see a bump in Preferred Walk On players who would then be scholarshipped as they become available (perhaps from transfers out).
On the Tight End list, I think Oakes has shown some solid progress.

I think gunnar oakes is going to show out next year
also - at risk of getting ahead of myself - this offense is going to be stacked like nuts next year with how many returning starters we're going to have

Oakes is kind of stiff, isn't he? Not an over grown WR.

Honestly the biggest loss of those 13 is Julien, he is a great punter.
I would agree, the improvement he has shown over the years has been impressive. I remember many of us complaining about his rugby kicks being blocked his first year here.

Losing Mike Van Hoeven is pretty big, too. Mike is one hell of a Center. That's one of the non-glory positions that you don't hear much about unless things are going wrong. Mike is nearly perfect with his snaps and is an excellent blocker. The guys coming up behind him are good, but that is a whole lot of gametime experience at Center leaving with Mike.

Agreed, we take certain things for granted and Van Hoeven is one of those.

The Van Hoeven family seem like good folks too. Been good for the program.

We need difference makers in this class especially defense. Every conference game this year has come down to the wire and we are losing some key super seniors.

EMU79,
I see we played true freshman Peyton Price last night, did we just burn a year of his eligibility?

He is permitted 4 games w/out burning a redshirt.
