****OFFICIAL GAME WEEK THREAD: WEEK 1 (Nov 5-12) Alcorn St/SC State****
Alcorn State - Alcorn only won 7 D1 games last year, but they did finish 2nd in the SWAC the previous two seasons. Nevertheless, it seems likely that they'll be one of the worst teams in the SWAC (and thus the entire country) again this year. In 4 years, Haith has lost to ORU, Jacksonville State, and Lamar in season openers. If he loses this game, it's over.
Game:
Tuesday Nov. 6 (vote then watch) 7pm CT
Radio: 99.5 KVOO 6:30 pregame
TuneIn app carries the radio broadcast if you are out of town
South Carolina State - The only conference worse than the SWAC last year was the MEAC. SC St. finished 10th in the MEAC.
Game:
Saturday Nov. 10, 3:30 pm CT
Radio: 99.5 KVOO 3pm pregame
TuneIn app carries the radio broadcast if you are out of town
I do not know about these games but ESPN 3 will carry some games so always worth a check.
Game breakdowns by Mr. Hooper.

Need a good start with these. Not just wins but comfortable ones. Like to see Haith settle on a sub pattern. Feel like his experimentation with line ups has hurt our starts to the season.

It would be nice to go hang a hundred on both these teams and get this thing started right. Would be a good boost for the team since we have some tough games against Nevada and K-State down the road.

Not really the start I was expecting but a win is a win. Hopefully we’ll see some improvements by Saturday. Taplin was sick so I know that played a role of sorts as well. However, our shooting (all around: 3s, ft, layups) needs to improve as does our rebounding.
At the end of the day we got a 17 point win over a subpar team. Not the end of the world, but we need to play better if we want to win some big games and play in a meaningful postseason tournament.

Went on a 20-4 run to finish the game which is a good sign.
Jeffries foul trouble hurt and Scott didn't score (1pt) and we still had 70+ points. If there is any games to suffer some shooting issues it's these first few games. Some of that is probably the team just not in perfect timing for real game plays. Getting the ball a little late can throw off people some.
All in all it's a decent performance and a win. Joiner looks ready to play and I think we will see the team play smooth out and be really impressive. Hopefully our subbing pattern settles in early and guys can get comfortable in their role and playing time.

We did well second game Jeffries and Taplin both played better and either could have had a double double fairly easily though both came up short. Taplin finished with as many assists as SC St. which is a good sign.
Seems we have settled on a rotation already also a good sign. 8 main contributors and 2-3 getting some minutes. No body will be getting much over 25 though. Our depth is nice and the leadership seems very solid on the court.
