I KID. I KID.
82Hawk,
In no way shape or form am I, and I’ll speak for SBTL, admonishing you or anyone else.
We’re just trying to give our points of view, but trust us we’re not thrilled about it.
Swampcougar1 I have a membership on your boards and your fans killed NU big time about this. I ask the same question about sharing the area with mutiple schools.
And you guys have constantly ripped your attendance.
In particular we rip our student attendance. Sad our student section is rarely half full.
If they filled their section up we would be over 4000 ave for the season. The other 2 schools in our area really do not effect us much if at all. Neither of them ave over 1000 fans a game. I just find it sad that NU, a good team, does not draw better
I’ll say it once again, Boston isn’t a hoops town. Never has unless the Celtics are great. It’s baseball and hockey. The Pats have made inroads, but once their Subaru is some (and it maybe now after SB 52) we’ll see how popular they remain.

Doesn't NE draw well for its hockey games?

Having been to basketball games at NU it is very easy to understand why they don't get anybody there. It is like going to a game outside, cool old building but that's about it. Ice under the floor, hockey rink with baskets on each end-brutal. Most seasons they are the 3rd best college team in Boston behind BC and Harvard so there is that along with the fact that playing southern schools in the snooty Boston area is not gonna draw flies. It sucks and my hat is off to the coaching staff for putting teams on the court that can compete. Last time I was there maybe 250 fans.

They have been better than both of those teams you mention for a while now.

They're not better than BC this year. BC has been bad since Skinner left, but they have decent talent this year all around, and many claim they have the best backcourt in the ACC.

Who knows? If they did lose to NU, it would be BC's worst loss of the year. Right now, BC has the better resume. BC's season may be defined by how they perform against Miami, and Northeastern against Towson and W&M on the road.

agree, they have similar RPIs, one thing that shocked me while looking that up was ACC is 4th in Conf RPI?!?!?!

That is interesting. I wouldn't have guessed #1 without looking. I knew Big 12 and SEC were ahead, but not the Big East.
With NU/BC, the projected RPI for end of season favors NU. But some of the assumed losses for BC are questionable.

8 of 10 BE teams in top 100, including 0-11 in conf St Johns. 9, 10 are inside the 175. I guess they don't have bottom teams dragging them down?

But 12 of 15 ACC teams in top 100. That doesn't make any sense to me. Prob a discussion for another thread but very odd.

NU might be better this year but I would say that both Harvard and BC have better programs and easily outdraw them most of the time. You can nick pick it if you want but nobody there cares about NU period. Hockey is the deal there and I am not sure people in Boston even care about . Bruins and Red Sox rule the sports fan in Boston.

RE: @ Northeastern (Game 2)
Few things ...
NU hockey doesn’t draw as much as they used to either. Hockey attendance is also down, but in most years they do better than hoops.
Crazy exaggeration on the atmosphere at Matthews Arena. It’s not colder that outside and they’ve made changes to make it more hoops friendly. Don’t know when the last time you went to a game there. Hockey ice doesn’t make a building cold.
We’ll never know about BC and NU in hoops because they won’t play us. Yes they have an outstanding backcourt but the rest of their team is suspect. Green and Murphy would do damage in the middle and those BC guards have to play defense against ours to. Maybe we can get them on the schedule next year. Oh and we beat Harvard by like 20 this year.
As I mentioned before, Boston is a baseball and hockey town. Pats have made inroads and the Celtics have their moments and fans. But college hoops is not a draw unless they play one of the name Power 5 teams.

We can relate, but we may have inroads for the two big in-state schools now. I think we'll get UNC in Trask in the next three years, and I hope that Keatts throws us a bone too.
I get it from the P5 school perspective too.

Celtics and Pats sell out on a regular basis. But Pats really don't interfere with NU games. I tried to get tickets last Wednesday to Celtics when i was in town, had a hard time finding something reasonable.

I wasn’t talking about attendance I’m talking about popularity in the region.

Popularity, Pats are just as popular now. They were not when i was growing up(in the Berkshires), but winning solves everything

When I moved to Boston in 2006, I felt that it was clearly Pats #1, Red Sox #2, Bruins #3, Celtics #4. There are times when it moves around, but these days NFL is king. There are just so many more casual fans of the NFL than any other league by far. I think the hard core fans of baseball and hockey in Boston are many, but overall the NFL reigns simply because of the sheer amount of casual fans.

Pats don't play in Boston or even in the same county-so there is that. Red Sox are the absolute king there and its not close. I don't count your cousin's wife who watches the Super Bowl because she likes TB. That is more like a casual viewer of a TV show. Fans have an investment of some sort and the Pats are a distant 3 in Boston proper.
