To be clear, though, I don't blame him. If anyone can make it in that job, it's him. But I don't think anyone can make it in that job.

RE: Keatts to NC State
Word on the street (ncsu fans/alums) around here is that they were prepared to go as high as $3 million a year. If that is so - I can't blame the man.

RE: Keatts to NC State
The USA Today article yesterday said Jimmy Bass was "working on an extension." Maybe they could have done more to get it finalized sooner?

I read we were prepared to give him a big raise. I thought he might stay given the job security. I can't doubt him but he has his work cut out for him. It was a great 3 years.

More word on the street: They had a handshake deal before yesterday's game. I have nothing to back it up, just twitter chatter

No way on earth Keatts would have signed an extension with NC State in his sights. It could only mean a higher buyout. Furthermore, he had built in extensions in his contract. Bass was working on a raise, but we can only get to about 750k. Still not enough.

We did all we could. No way we could compete with an ACC job and that kind of dough.

I don't know, but I doubt we'd go that route regardless. Maybe it would help keep players here, but I'd guess the money might be in place to make a bigger hire than a bump-up promotion.

Possibly, but Keatts will likely take them with him at a significant raise. Would love if at least one stayed for the sake of the players, but I don't see it happening.

RE: Keatts to NC State
The writing was on the wall and sounds like it has been in the works for awhile. Articles from the state beat writers in the News and Observer as well as some comments by the national media about how Keatts would be going to a bigger school soon. Still sucks, no doubt.

Some of earlier targets did not want to work fro Yow, so they had to structure this as a first choice and that she got the deal done fast and clean and also threw so much money he couldn't refuse it.

If ONLY the Tribe ever found itself in such a situation...it sucks, but you guys are spoiled going back to the Wainwright days. You better name a new coach quick, because the sharks will be in the water circling your incoming recruiting class before you know it. Keatts might also convince Cacok and Bryce to sit out a year and come to Raleigh with him.

Thanks for all the obvious like we haven't already thought about it.

Who knows. Maybe Whitman will come south so he can actually put one of those little blue NCAA patches on his jersey for once.

Cheers!

Keatts to NC State
NC State just announced the hire via fb, and the responses on there all the reasons we talked about that being a head scratcher of a destination.

About half of the fans are welcoming and the other half are either unimpressed or flat out punks. Trashing Keatts' resume and our conference.

One response says "don't bother unpacking... you have quite a legacy to fill."

What a bunch of dolts.

I literally hate NC State now. They absolutely don't deserve a good coach.

RE: Keatts to NC State
State did a good job being told no quietly this go around. I understand why some of their fans are disappointed. Mainly, because they bought into the delusion that Marshall and Miller were interested. Keatts has had nothing but success at every stop, but he's never faced a challenge like the one before him now. But hey, Boeheim, Pitino, Williams and K are all retiring in the next 5-7 years. I'm sure their fan base will be patient until then.
