RE: Signing Day 2016
Has anyone compiled a list of other offers that our new guys received and turned down? I know at least 2 players had ofers from one or more of the service academies.

Random question... With only highlights and Internet write-ups available to us, which signing are you most excited for?

This is composite of what I've seen from sites and articles.

Arman Jones, 6'1" 200 OLB from Western Branch in Chesapeake. 3* with 13 offers including 5 FBS.

Nate Lewis, 6'1" 185 CB/S from Western Branch. 3* with six offers including 2 FBS.

Noah Giles, 6' 190 RB from Nansemond-Suffolk Acad. in Smithfield, VA. 2* with five offers including 2 FBS.

Daniel Evers, 6'5" 295 OL from Fort Lauderdale who did post-grad year at Fork Union. 2* with multiple unknown offers.

Jake Walter, 6'4" 245 DE from Haddonfield, NJ. Had eight offers with two FBS.

Alex Purviance, 6'1" 210 LB from Pfafftown, NC. Had a few FCS offers.

Anthony Mague, 6'3" 210 WR from Medford, NJ. Had six offers.

Dean Rotger, 6' 190 QB from Poughkeepsie, NY. Had four offers.

Gavin Johnson, 6'4" 235 DE from Apopka, FL. Had ten offers.

Jordan Lowery, 5'11" 190 WR from Roanoke, VA. Had a few FCS offers.

Robbie Omelchenko, 6'3" 248 DE from Gonzaga H/S. in D.C. Offers unknown.

Jaret Anderson, 5'10" 197 RB from Charlotte Catholic H.S. Had three offers.

I had already decided on Arman Jones before seeing Tribe4SF's offer breakdown below and now I feel better about my pick.

Very early target, nice size, aggressive, great tackler, and all the "stars" and offers to support my decision.

Plus 1 with Jake Walter as the sleeper (injured the day after he committed-depends on how long healing takes).

Agree on Jones. I think he will be a star early. Evers is my pick for future star, anchoring the O Line.

I too like Jones. But, my current crush is Isaiah Laster. He is listed as a 6'1 215lb DB. That is as big, if not bigger, than Jones. He seems to have great anticipation, hits hard, and runs pretty well. If played at SS, I can see him laying out big hits with his LB size. If they moved him to OLB, his DB skills would benefit him greatly against TEs.

RE: Signing Day 2016
Gavin Johnson is my top pick. Very technically sound for a HS player. Low pad level, uses his hands, gets of block, great closing speed and burst, great change of direction, good nose for ball and instincts, recognizes blocking schemes, sure tackler. Reminds me of Adrian Tracy.

Based on film, I also really like Anderson, Lewis, Laster, and Mague. Daniel Evers looks good, but its hard to gauge how HS OL success will translate to college OL success until they actually get thrown into the trenches.

Arman Jomes has huge upside, no denying his raw talent, but he needs some polish.

I was gonna say Johnson as well. Plus he's from the same high school as Warren Sapp. That has to be worth something too.

Technically, the walk-ons don't sign a letter of intent, so they more or less remain as verbal commits until they enroll. Very rare that we lose a preferred walk-on after signing day though. Here is the list we know of, compliments of Mr. Joolius:

Matt McDermott (preferred walk-on)
Offensive Guard
6'2 275lb Wyndmoor, PA

Ted Hefter(Preferred Walk on)
Quarterback
6'0 180lb Washington, DC

Josh Stallings(Preferred Walk on)
Quarterback / Tight End
6'3 220lb Culpepper, VA

Gunnar Frerotte(Preferred Walk on)
Wide Receiver / Cornerback /Quarterback
5'10 185lb Pittsburgh, PA

Tyler Crist(Preferred Walk on)
Outside Linebacker / Safety
6'0 210lb Hampton, VA

Ryan Ripley(Preferred Walk on)
Defensive Tackle / Offensive Guard
6'2 280lb Glen Allen, VA

Collin Parker(Preferred Walk on)
Cornerback
6'1 190lb Haymarket, VA

Nick Ridpath(Preferred Walk on)
Defensive End
6'4 243lb Radford, VA

We'll likely pick up 2-4 more walk-ons in the coming week or two.

Jones is fast enough to play safety.

We can put a lot of speed on the field with some these guys added to our other speedy guys 04-rock

Re: Signing Day 2016
I wonder what Arman Jones' true measurables are? On tribeathletics.com they list him at 6'1 200lbs. On 247 sports they list him at 6'3 225lbs. That is quite a swing. I'm guessing the tribe numbers are the accurate ones since most scouting sites reflect this.

Looks like Gunnar is Gus Frerotte's son. I know Gus was primarily a back up for over a decade in the NFL but still interesting to have a recent NFL long time QB around the program. Our NFL connections with coaches and players keep growing! It's pretty cool to see where the program overall is.

Gunnar cited Coach Rodgers relationship with his father (He coached Gus with the Vikings) as a big reason the Tribe was attractive.
