Yup anytime an Aggie talks to me about football and finds out Fran is the coach, the convo turns negative against him. If think it's a tradition to hate him.

It's the sad affair of college athletics (particularly in Texas):
Say the following is true:
stAte is at 11-0
Texas State is 11-0
SMU/UH/Rice/UTSA is 5-6
if stAte came to San Marcos for the last game, it wouldn't be as well attended as if a Texas team with a losing record came in for the last game.
Even if the mythological stAte/Texas State game was for the conference championship.
Us Texans are a bit of a different breed. Bragging rights over your buddy's school takes precedence over conference championships.
I remember North Texas fans complaining about that. At some point, the reasoning actually became that North Texas was so bad in the Sun Belt because they were playing Sun Belt Teams and didn't care. If they moved to a league with more Texas teams, they would instantly become more competitive.
The funny thing is, that actually happened. For some illogical reason, they started playing better against the lower quality in state competition, and I'm pretty sure the larger crowds had something to do with it.
Of course coming from a state where instate matchups are unheard of outside of the D2 level, you guys are always going to sound strange.
I still don't get how they haven't sold out their nice new stadium with all the in state teams they now play.

they dont sell out because they dont have enough rabid fans. It was a teachers school for many generations and still leans liberal. with lots of liberal arts programs and a mostly liberal, politically correct student body, they dont have a high enough percentage of beer and bbq type fans that consider a football game at dear old U the only thing to do on a fall weekend. that the administration seems committed to reaching a high level in sports is a big plus but it has been a slow road to respectability for them.

This is true for 95% of schools out there, definitely not a Texas thing.
Yep. Only difference is Texas has about 300 damn schools out there. 8,000, if you count their high schools.

I would like to see the Bobcats get more involved with the group in CUSA or the MWC. And set up as many games against old SWC schools as possible in OOC. If Texas State can gather some momentum somewhat similar to what UofH did in the 80's and 90's...then, the program could really make some positive strides. Talent makes for entertaining fb.
Good luck Bobcats.
The Bobcats are doing quite well under Coach Fran and are a force to be reckoned with in the SBC. Not so much with Texas in the Big 12.
Yeah, I'm not trying to put Texas State in the Big 12. I was trying to get Texas State to develop rivalries against the old guard schools in the state. Which will help Texas St gain a foothold in the media versus the schools that actually get all the media coverage. Which will help foster growth for the school. Plus, all the schools in the old SWC are very close in proximity to Texas State...and should all bring good crowds to the games no matter where they are played. Playing the old SWC group also puts Texas State in a good position to be televised on a major network.
This is why I recommended that Texas State set up games against old SWC schools.
Playing several of those SWC members would earn nothing more than an AAC or ESPN3 telecast... teams are just not very good.
I am pretty sure we're better than Arkansas State. Can't say the same about SMU or Rice though.

Now, now, TX only has 208 colleges/universities and 3710 high schools. Getting a little out of hand with those numbers there.
