Yeah, "draft and stash" started as a way to get the long term rights to International players, like Ricky Rubio, that weren't going to be able to play in the US right away, either due to an existing contract (as with Rubio) or the need for more refining of certain skills. The team was either going to get a good player or a potentially valuable trading piece.

Using the "draft and stash" on an American kid is fairly new and bodes well for Marcus, as it shows the Celtics were impressed enough to want to be the team controlling his future home.

Game 4 of Summer League Play:

Marcus: 7:26 minutes played, 0-3 FGM-A, 0-1 3PM-A, 1-2 FTM-A, 1 Rebound, 1 Foul, 1 Turnover, 1 Pt

I've been a long time lurker here, and I'm a huge Celtics fan. It's been fun watching Marcus Thorton play, and I hope things can work out for him. He had a great game tonight in the Summer League. In almost 20 minutes of play he had 21 points, 2-2 3-pointers and 9-9 FT. He was really attacking the basket. He was also the game's leading scorer beating some well-known names like Justise Winslow. Hoping this can create some momentum for him as he's been unfortunately pretty non-existent so far.

Marcus KILLED it tonight. THAT'S what we're used to seeing!

Marucs played 10 minutes, and put up 8 points, 2 rebounds, an assist, and a block. Missed his only 3 point shot though, hes been struggling from beyond the arc it seems.

Maybe it's me, but it seems like he's altered his shot in the pros. Seems a lot more streamlined than it used to be.

Marcus looked good out there. It's hard to tell in these summer league games because players are trying to showcase themselves (or maybe that's just the way the NBA is). He seems to to be in the offensive flow. He created good shots and drove the ball when he was at point. But, it was rarely kicked out to him when he was on the wing. He was ready to check in at about the 3 minute mark of the 4th quarter, but he didn't get the chance.

It was exciting seeing Marcus out there. I had lots of Tribe Pride. His mother, brother, and sister were in the stands.

Believe Quinn played in the SBL which is semi-pro.
Quinn's senior year was Marcus' freshman year.

The NBL tweeted that Marcus is coming to play for the Kings. So, I'd say it's more official than a rumble.

Now to figure out how to stream games for the NBL :).

The NBL looks like a pretty solid league, though admittedly I don't know much about foreign leagues. How does it stack up compared to Europe in terms of level of play? Australia is a great place to live, and it sounds like he'll get a chance to be a team leader. My hope is the level of play is high enough to allow him to develop into what the Celtics have in mind.

It looks like, in all seriousness, that they have some sort of streaming package. Looks like the season starts in October (no schedule for this year yet, but looking at last year). Will have to keep an eye on that.
