The numbers only really matter for schools to gauge how they are doing with ticket sales and use the info to try and improve that. If people are buying a ton of season tix but only going to half the games, then they still count since no one can walk up and buy those seats.

Well actually a lot of those bought season tickets are resold. A company might buy a block of season tickets then donate them back to the school to resell but I get your point and it's correct.

Why would a school need to resell tickets that have already been sold unless they were already sold out to begin with? Wouldn't they just sell the remaining seats to claim higher ticket sales? Not saying it doesn't happen, I just don't follow the logic unless the stadium was sold out to begin with - which I don't think is the case here. Sure would look fishy if you claimed 50,000 tickets sold to a stadium that only seats 30k.

Because those are in the more expensive seating. I've bought tickets right in the middle of ASU season ticket holders a couple years ago in a section that is sold out to ASU fans that want season tickets in that section. The school can't resell them as season tickets because some games the user might go to but they can sell them as single game tickets.

I'm sure it's not 1000s of tickets but it happens at Western also and I assume most places.
