Am all in favor of Missouri State, however the NCAA will not play games on attendance:

Missouri State Football Attendance Average per NCAA
8,700 for 2013 (which an even number seems like an estimate, which is normally higher than actual figures.)
8,710 in 2012
10,804 in 2011
9,028 in 2010
9,570 in 2009
The Sun Belt and it's member schools will have to help Missouri State to get their attendance up literally.
Potentially could schedule what could be predicted as well attended games later in the season and do some
promotional things for early season games.

NCAA plays games with attendance all the time. Have you seen eastern michigan's numbers?

As I have said I have no problem with Missouri St.

Their pompus attitude and looking for a MAC or CUSA invite should cause them to drop....at least I hope so. With them trying to get into the MAC will hopefully be their downfall.

On paper JMU is the best add right now but I think MO St is the best add for the future. EKU can be a good add but they are not ready if we need another team later we can keep EKU on the back burner.

The NCAA doesn't play games with attendance. Some schools try to.
The NCAA will not even sanction a school as FBS unless they now meet the 15,000 average.
Some of the schools that got in years ago never had to prove attendance like they do today. Eastern Michigan has special deal set up because someone knew someone with Pepsi to buy extra tickets every other year for Eastern Michigan. It seems to irk the MAC to no end. Has UAB been officially put on notice since they had 10,548 attendance in 2013?
With the P5 making the rules would think it will only get tougher rules attendance wise. Especially since the FBS average is 45,192 attendance, and the P5 average is even higher. If they can exclude they will.

Mo State also is also expanding their football stadium currently so attendance may go up with a FBS announcement and larger facility...

They can also always hire UABs ticket counters

Evidently didn't do UAB much good. I believe Missouri State is close enough that it can be done but they need to start working on it ASAP if the SBC is going to invite them. Hope they do, would be a good fit.

Tulane would have real issues if the NCAA really went after actual attendance.

Maybe Tulane could build in some manikin attendees while they are building their new stadium.

Attendance could be real simple - call Nebraska up offer a 2 for 1, with the 1 being in Kansas City. Count it as a home game, take the money and run.

Could do that with a number of teams in St Louis and KC, especially if the Rams leave St Louis... They'd probably be begging for games.
Nebraska, Kansas, K State at Arrowhead.

Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin in St Louis.

I'd love to see the reaction in Columbia if you guys played Kansas at Arrowhead.

Sorry to break the new to you bud, but Missouri St has bee the number one choice for an expansion way before GaSo and App St were ever invited. They are the one FCS program that every school in the previously raided Sun Belt could agree on.

In fact until the add of you two JMU was never even mentioned.

This. Still can't see what the big deal is about JMU. Plus they are not coming.

Their pompus attitude and looking for a MAC or CUSA invite should cause them to drop....at least I hope so. With them trying to get into the MAC will hopefully be their downfall.

They are not pompous for looking out for their own self interests. Look at a map. We would all do the same. I am perfectly ok with taking a better geographic fit named after a state vs. an outlier named after a person.

Spot on. Missouri State has long been a program on the Sun Belt's radar. Bus trip for AState and UALR, and non-revenue sports at ULM and UNT uh I mean UTA can bus there.

Place as crazy about hoops as Bowling Green except about 3X larger than Bowling Green and that has always made it a one-sided conversation UNTIL Creighton went to the Big East. Now they understand the game and understand that even the most stable conference is a phone call from being unstable.

I wouldn't mind JMU and personally would like them to join because I used to live in VA. But after all is said and done and seeing most of the pros and cons, I think MoSt is the best overall fit. The current renovation to their stadium shows they seem to be serious about preparing for a move. Hopefully they can increase their budget and attendance numbers because they would make a great addition to the conference. I really hope they get the invite, they are the only team that seems to make everyone happy (or at least they don't piss off anyone if added).

Personally if I had a vote in the matter, I'd accept a request for membership from JMU or Mo State or both of them without qualms. If both wanted in, I'd say great, let's iron out the scheduling problems later.

I want schools that have demonstrated they have a high likelihood of helping this venture and both fit that bill to me.

I remember several years ago A-State hosted Missouri in Arrowhead Stadium as one of their "home" games to boost attendance numbers. The game was not sold out by any means, but it drew almost 33,000 people.
http://www.mutigers.com/sports/m-footbl/...05aaa.html

Personally, I think big games in KC and StL are a good idea, but I don't want to rely on them to meet attendance figures. I'm of the firm belief that our attendance is very good considering our lack of success on the field for several years.

Not making excuses, but you guys have to look at several factors that have affected attendance at MO State:
- Facilities have been shotty (at best) for some time. This has considerably affected both student turnout and recruiting
- Springfield, in general, will support a winning team...but they really haven't ever bought into FCS football. Not many people care about going to watch teams like Indiana State, Western Illinois, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, etc.
- Lack of gameday atmosphere doesn't make going to a game a big-time event
- Early season losses on the road prior to home opener
- Late season home games are not appealing when the team has a losing record and there are big BCS games on TV at the same time
- Huge home crowds have been consistently disappointed by team performance. If we could actually win one of our big games in front of a large crowd, it would go a long way to selling tickets to upcoming games

Like I said, not making excuses. We have invested in several sports over the years (new softball field, new basketball arena/locker room additions, dedicated volleyball arena, lease of the downtown baseball stadium) without investing in football facilities, with the exception of a new videoboard and the occasional turf replacement. But, MO State fans feel there is light at the end of the tunnel:
- In October, students passed an athletic and recreation fee to build a soccer/track complex, lacrosse/field hockey field, sand volleyball courts (for recreation/possible future addition of another women's sport), fund a "game day experience" account for students and, most importantly, renovations to our football stadium and field
- The new soccer/track complex and lacrosse/field hockey field will (finally) make our stadium a football-only facility. This has made it possible for us to move the field closer to our west side stands while giving us more space to build the new east side stands. In addition, a bermed area and ground level plaza are being built behind the north endzone.

These improvements will increase the noise level, sightlines, and gameday experience dramatically and the improvements are being built with possible expansion in mind. With our new president's background (he went to school at U of A), our football program seems to be an important area of focus of this administration.
