Game Week 2/21 WMU Home and 2/25 Ball State Home - emu79 - 02-19-2023 05:48 AM

Its been a tough 3 games stretch with Toledo Akron and Kent State. EMU is 3-11 in conference and 6-21 overall. This week is the final home stand. Lets take a minute to honor Derek Ballard Jr who will play his final home game this week. This former walk on earned a scholarship and is the very definition of a student athlete who sets a great example in the classroom and on the court. Best wishes to him in the future.

WMU pulled an upset at home yesterday against Ball St. and are now 3-11 in conference and 7-20 overall. They beat EMU at home by six. Starting line up looks could look like this:

Lamar Norman Jr, 6'1 Sr.
Troy Maddox Jr 6'6 Sr.
Titus Wright 6'6 Jr.
Markeese Hastings 6'7 Jr.

The fifth starter now seems to rotate between Tafari Simms 6'6 Sr. and two 6'4 freshmen Seth Hubbard and JaVaughn Hannah.

After losing to WMU Ball State is 10-4 in conference and 19-8 overall and already clinched a MAC tourney spot. They beat EMU by 1 point in overtime at home. Their starting lineup could look like this:

Javion Coleman 6'5 Jr.
Jaylin Sellers 6'4 So.
Payton Sparks 6'9 So.
Demarius Jacobs 6'2 Sr.
Mickey Pearson 6'7 So.

Jalen Windham 6'5 Jr ad Basheer Jihad 6'8 So are the main bench options.

Wow. Unless something crazy happens this is the next to last such thread for 2022/3. Four games left.

Four more games with this team is like four appointments for a root canal.

Thanks for starting the thread again, 79. I am reposting the status for the Eighth Seed to this thread. I am in agreement with both you and Steve, this season is likely done and may be a painful remaining 4 games to follow (for fans, players, and coaches). But….

For EMU to make the MAC tourney (not at all likely), they probably need to run the table with these final 4 games, AND have Central go 2-2. CMU lost at home to Ohio today and BGSU lost at home to Toledo to keep the shot at the Eight Seed alive. But Miami won on the road at NIU and WMU won at home against Ball St. So they are now in the mix and needing to if they run their tables.

Here are the remaining schedules for those in contention for the highly coveted Eight Seed. Let the race begin.

CMU (5-9): @Buffalo, VsNIU, VsToledo, @WMU

BGSU (4-10): @Miami, VsKent, VsEMU, @Ohio

EMU (3-11): VsWMU, VsBallSt,@BGSU, @NIU

WMU (3-11): @EMU, @Akron, VsMiami, VsCMU

Miami (3-11): VsBGSU, VsOhio, @WMU, @Buffalo

You watch him on the sidelines, and he is so upbeat and supportive of his teammates.

I still think his energy could have more utilized this year, but on a crappy team with a bunch of young guys who need experience, I can understand to an extent why. He, however, is a very good guy!

Definitely in agreement here. Ballard has always been extremely effective on the court, but looks awkward doing it. So he has never got the playing time he deserved. But he at least he got the scholarship. And gets our praise.

Any chance Bubba Sparks will be out for Saturday? 03-lmfao

Wild card to your eyes on for the WMU game is Owen Lobsinger 6'9 225 So. from Flint Powers who had 15 points and 7 rebounds for WMU against Ball St. Was it a break out game for him or just a fluke?

Players court time should be based solely on merit as the objective is for EMU to win games. Better older players should played more than younger players. Unlike other EMU younger bigs, Ballard's positive stats support my view that he should have played far more than he has.

Sparks is in. Norman Jr. Injury is knee related. He may be a game time decision.

Just when EMU started getting some momentum on the season, they ended up playing the 3 strongest conference opponents all in a row in Toledo, Akron, and Kent St. And that momentum’s kind of fizzled. A solid finish to the season would leave an appetizing taste for the players to want to come back and play strong from the start next season. (This season is already over, basically)

WMU at home is just what the doctor ordered for this need- with or without Norman. I always wish even opposing players the best, and hope his injury is not serious. But… Norman’s absence or playing less than 100% is a good thing for EMU. Thanks again for sharing.

EMU will go 2-0 this week! We're playing WMU at home who's also 3-11 in the MAC, and Ball St who we lost too by one point in OT in Muncie!

I really hope you are right, Glory. Unfortunately, a lot of the game is mental (or anything in life for that matter). I am not sure where this team is at right now mentally. Let’s see if we get a good performance and solid win against WMU first. Then consider Ball St.

RE: Game Week 2/21 WMU Home and 2/25 Ball State Home - Miggy - 02-20-2023 06:48 PM

EMU would win all their remaining games if they deny good shooters the ball, disrupt opponent offenses extend their defense and forcing turnovers, and speed up opponents offense and make shooters hurry their shots. Noah, Lovejoy, and Emoni would thrive in a system where the defense creates offense. Will EMU do anything these things? No.

A HS played that way in a in a big tournament today and led 55-36 at the half.

Last game: Acuff played 29-minutes, scored 0-points, and shot 0-7 from the field. Noah played only 21-minutes, scored 6-points, and shot 3-6 from the field. . All you need to know about the state of EMU bb.

You called Acuff but not the player who went 5-17 and 1-9 from the 3 arc.? Hm.

Miggy your post illustrates in away two points one as Super and I pointed out there are 5 players and only one basketball.I mentioned this as a caveat to us signing all these talented players.Later announcers and other posters openly questioned whether selfish play accounts for the overall poor performance. As one announcer said if EMU plays unselfish they can win. Count the number of times EMU passes the ball before shooting. Maybe I am wrong and hopefully so but this team seems keen on individual players getting their points and not preventing the other team from scoring theirs.

Don't worry. The circular firing squad has gotten the players, coaches, and even us posters.

Everyone has felt the sting at one time or the other.
