OT. Sec big 12 challenge - shocknawe - 01-28-2023 09:59 PM

Can’t wait to be part of next year. An actual legitimate cool thing in hoops. Vs the big games at Tulsa

Unfortunately it’s ending after this year. ESPN apparently is doing SEC/ACC challenge for both men’s and women’s bball in November after this year. Heard them talk about it during Kansas/UK game and link below for confirmation. Article notes an Andy Katz tweet where he mentioned likely Big 12/Big 10 challenge if there is mutual interest.

Watched a couple of the games. Big 12 is crazy strong. No clue on computer numbers but Big 12 currently reminds me a lot of Big East 2005-2012ish dominance besides literally no teams at the bottom for a break.

Next year they're doing a Big 12-AAC challenge.

We're matched up with Tulsa.

I think it’s better. Like you said you don’t have the Rutgers, USF, DePauls at the bottom of the league.

Early on I think UCF, UC, and BYU will struggle and be bottom half teams.

I think they are still doing the Big 12-Big East challenge for the next two years. But 3 Big 12 teams won’t be able to participate with Texas and Oklahoma still in the league. I’d guess those three next year will be UC, UCF, and BYU. But maybe they put UC with a Marquette or DePaul given the history.

Some may not like to hear this but there is a chance we may be one of the three big participating in the challenge for a couple years. I am sure the legacy BXII schools will get first dibs. Also, we need as many winnable OOC games as possible to the overall record somewhat respectable in the end.

Personally it makes way more sense to exclude Texas and Oklahoma because they are leaving. Then you exclude BYU due to travel and Sunday restrictions while working to find to them a regional opponent like Gonzaga or SDSU.

Bolded, my understanding too. I do expect a reset with revised conference matchups in all these series so a B12/B10 challenges may be in the cards. Fortunately, the B12 basketball reputation is at an all-time high. I would expect Yormark to leverage that to the max and I think locally, we'd enjoy that series of games.

Yormark's trip to NYC a couple of months ago was interesting too. Part was waving the flag that the B12 not only survived but is poised to thrive with the new media deal. But I also believe he wants to find ways to showcase B12 basketball in MSG and elsewhere in the northeast. He seems to be exactly the right man for the job at this moment in time.

I think the Big 12 would be okay with that, but the TV Networks might not be.
