y'all might want to start paying att'n to hoops... - stinkfist - 11-29-2022 10:55 PM

this team is better than good ... Haase makes 'em all better ... just like Neil Watson and Casey Fisher ... except he's a forward that can do it all...

congrats, JL! you found a few folks!!!

Team should be 12-0 come UNLV time. Then some weak to avg teams in SBC. I think Usm makes a run at conference title. Of course, we have played some terrible teams, but we beat them all soundly. Including Vandy, who isn't terrible. I wont get my hopes up until UNLV and some conf games.

Yea but as someone who doesn't watch hoops, what I'm seeing is the games we were supposed to win, we've won and the couple of games we should've lost, we won...

Vs last season where we just lost.

Not a big hoops fan, but I've been paying attention. I'm really curious to see what happens in conference play. Regardless, we're already better than last year. Guess he had a fire lit underneath him after last seasons garbage.

I think from what I understood, when Jay was at SE LA, it wasn't until season 3 that he started winning..

We've played a lot of teams predicted to be at the top of their conference. Now, their conference may not be good, but they'll still be solid wins come the end of the year. It's a lot better compared to the last decade.

Jay had one decent year at Southeastern that led to a First Round exit in the NIT. Other than that, he was not great. 76-88 overall.

We've played at Vanderbilt and Liberty. Both top 100 teams and both which may count as the all important Quad 1 wins at the end of the season. We beat Vandy by more than 10 points which is also good as 10+ wins help your net ranking more than a 1 point win.

All other teams other than Liberty have been beaten by 10 or more as well. The Purdue Fort Wayne, Winthrop, and Montana teams we played are all predicted to be or are usually their conference champion. They all come from conferences better than the Sunbelt was last year with the Sunbelt Champion being ranking 68/68 in the NCAA last year and having to play a play in game.

The next team we play is Northwestern state which is 5-2 with just one of those being an NAIA team win. One of their wins is against #15 ranked TCU @TCU. One of their losses is @ Top 25 Texas Tech. We have 2 starters out and I'm not sure if anyone knows if they will be back for the game. Not sure where anyone gets the idea that Northwestern state should be an easy win. It's gonna be a hard game at their place down 2 starters.

I watched the Northwestern State game last night vs.stephen austin.. even though it was like 102-92 or something like that, it seemed like they were playing a ton of "street ball" that didn't go their way til late in the 2nd half. (Maybe it was just who they were playing?)

And then Lamar-Texas State game. If that's not a blow out in our favor in those two games... something went drastically wrong. Like their superstar player was shorter than the female ref and was horrible.

I could find anything to watch on Mcneese.. so yeah, we _should_ be 12-0 when we hit UNLV.

I'll say i can see one slip up in the NWS game, because they had a ton of tall, but I'm trust coach to out-coach them on that one.

As for the quad wins.. vandy is still _currently_ a Quad 3 in RPI (waiting on the NET numbers.. i thought they were supposed to be out yesterday, but I haven't seen them yet.)

Quote:We've played a lot of teams predicted to be at the top of their conference.

I think, the Montana win is just as important as probably a couple of the other 'big name' schools.. since Montana's been the big sky champ for god knows how many years straight... and the incredible fact, was Pinckney (I think they said Pinckney) was the only player on our current roster who had any points when we played them last year..

I think Juan Cardona's been the key to the turnaround among the coaches, from what I read, a lot of the new roster has been kids he coached or coached against in Miami school districts...

Pleasantly surprised. From what i've seen the difference is the new coach Cardona. He's very engaged and coaching his head off. It's early, but i worry that they will give Ladner an extension if they have a descent or good year, and then Cardona (and the players he brought in) leave and we go back to sucking.

Concerning the NET rating Dasani mentioned, we are around 345th or so, last I saw. Certainly based on the weak schedule.

no. We ended last season at 347 (or whatever it was)... that’s still the current net. Because it hasn’t been calculated yet. It’s first update is sometime this month, so preseason polls can’t affect the numbers

Ugh... what a game... so many turnovers early, I just had a bad feeling when we had 6 in the first five minutes...I’lol give em credit for fighting to the wire, but we gave that game away..

That was a really good team of athletes that were highly motivated. Not a back breaker that we lost at the buzzer by an incredible shot that was well defended. Only question I have is should we have fouled and not let them play for the last shot?
Last year that would have been an embarrassing blow out.

Don't know why that Sharp guy chose to go to there. He has talent for much better.
