Unfortunately we won't be adding him on Wednesday. Other than the transfer portal and JUCO guys who have committed over the past month I'm not sure if there is anyone else out there we might add. Maybe some PWOs?

I talked to him about his choices
He said if he had signed his NLI back in December he would have been an Eagle
But these guys came in at the final hour and basically took him
Jeff also told me that if Vontrell had also stayed here it would have definitely put EMU in his top 3
I also wanted to know if NIL had anything to do with it
He said that schools weren't throwing money at him, that his choice was based on his experience and the feeling at those schools

One thing I would also like to mention is something he said during our conversation
He said that Eastern was without a doubt the school with the best family atmosphere
Specifically, he could tell it was a family environment
That each player really did love the guy next to him
But at the end of the day Family isn't all you go to a school for

That part really stuck with me
The fact that he said it was a family environment
Almost every recruit we have ever got, under Creighton, has said something along those lines
It seems to be really damn true

TBH I probably shouldn't have said anything
It was a mistake on my part
I was just excited about getting him
Sorry

No.need to apologize at all Edified Younwere going off of information straight from the recruit. Unfortunately the bigger boys were able to get him last minute. I appreciate your insight.

The bottom line is. we have a loaded class coming in to EMU and an incredibly experienced and talented group if returnees This should be a great season

I'm never going to begrudge a guy for going P5 over G5. It happens. Good luck to him - hope he picks Indiana.
Generally, P5 >G5. In this case, though, one could contend that EMU is a better and more stable program than the 3 listed P5 teams. EMU also has a history of DEs developing into pro prospects.

Good luck to the kid. Hopefully, he's making the right move for himself and not just chasing P5 glory. EMU will be fine at DE.

Chris Creighton clearly is MR. CLEAN. He suspended two of his best players ever, Roback and Crosby, BEFORE their behavior got out of control. Talented but bad actors like Aristilde and Kilby disappear. He has built a great program.

I am not sure at all what to expect this February signing day. PWOs? We seem well stocked at all positions.

Better question: How many LOI do we have to give?

Has anyone attempted a 'demographic-like equation' (demographics are starting population+ (births - deaths + immigration (in/out)

We roughly need to know:

1). Number of 2022 scholarships used (how close to 85)?

2). Number of graduating scholarship players?

3). Number of scholarship players transferring out?

4). Number of scholarship players (H.S., JUCO, and transfers) signed in December?

5). Number of committed transfer scholarship players for February?

6). Other committed scholarship players for February?

7). Scholarships for walk-ons? Where do those count? Think we may have had two special teamers.

Only numbers 1, 2, and 4 are basically known. #3 can be guessed based on sites like 247 transfer portal.

#5 and 6 are known really only to the FB staff. We can try to assume but our knowledge is limited.

EDIT: according to 247 sports we had 8 scholarship transfers out during the season and post season. Boone, Jackson, and Johnson transferred AFTER the Dec. signing period.

I'm just GUESSING at approximate numbers (just illustrating what I'm guessing at).

85 scholarship used in 2022. 14 graduating players per CMU game notes. 8 scholarship players transferred out per 247 sports. I assume that leaves around 63 committed for 2023.

18 signed in Dec. Assume all scholarship. That would be 81 scholarship players???

So we have only a couple scholarship to give? And they are spoken for?

Also after the spring game and winter semester ending we usually lose a few more to the portal. That is also when May JUCOs are graduating.

Have to be careful. Some schools OVER SIGN and try to get to 85 by attrition. Not a great practice to follow. Can lead to cutting players.

I'd prefer those freed up scholarships be held back for walk-ons who earn scholarships.

Hm is the coaching staff's decision on how to use the scholarships? I can't recall a time that CC has over signed since he has been coach. My point is that those who leave after winter semester are the late summer signees.

I don't disagree although we do NOT know how C.C. manages scholarship which open up late.

I believe that scholarship management is a big, big deal for coaches. Much more than we realize because of NCAA rules and roster issues.

The point I was trying to make is that coaches NEED scholarships for walk-on who make the 2-deeps. There is an unwritten rule that walk-ons who make the 2-deeps should be awarded a scholarship.

It is part of the recruiting understanding, the recruit takes a chance by coming to EMU w/out a scholarship. He expects if he proves himself, he will get one. And, the corollary is that if he doesn't he most likely transfers to a school who will give him one.

Dylan Summers has stepped away from football
He is no longer playing
A massive loss
