FAU is a VERY good basketball team and played very well today. When you have a dominant 7'1" center from Russia and shoot 50% from three you are going to be tough to beat. They beat Florida on the road and are 7-1. We shoot 3-20 from the arc? Noah had a horrible game and I agree with Sam, he is the straw that stirs our drink.
I did like some things today. Emoni went 0-7 from three but actually put the ball on the floor, drew contact and got 29 points. We need this from him, and he needs to develop that part of his game for his future. We also fought through screens today, instead of auto switching as in the past, a coaching adjustment to be sure. Acuff continued to play well after his early season malfunction. KDR had his moments as well.
What did I not like? FOUR FREAKING ASSISTS? Really? The Heath offensive strategy seems less sophisticated than his predecessor which I thought not possible. He puts two guys in the corner, one in the paint and I see no pick and rolls, little player movement and thus the ball handlers are forced into a one-on-one, pass the ball around the outside game. In his post-game interview, Stan stated that he needed more scoring from his frontcourt and singled out Geeter, Billingsley and Golson. Geeter and Billingsley played 35 minutes and got him only five points. Golson only got him two points BUT was on the floor for only FIVE minutes and NONE in the second half. Strange.
I knew we were not big prior to the season but I thought we might compensate with hustle from pressure from our smaller but quicker lineup. I was obviously wrong.
We don't have a true point guard to take control and distribute the ball. FAU had over 20 assists. Part of this is due to shooting. The real problem is the failure to play any type of defense consistently. Also actually learning that assists, rebounds and defense also matter besides scoring points.
The best pass I saw from EMU was when Luckyone tossed the ball to the girl trying to hit her three-point shot in the timeout break competition. Nice bounce pass to the arc that she received in shooting rhythm, but he received no assist credit as she missed the shot. LOL!
You’re hilarious, Jerry LOL :-)
