Men's Basketball Florida Week - emu79 - 11-28-2022 04:48 PM

Two games against Florida schools this week 11/30 at FIU in Miami FL and then another Sunday game at home against FAU. FIU is currently 4-2 and their schedule isn't that strong. They did play NC State and got blown out. Their starting lineup last game was Denver Jones 6'4 a Jr., John Williams Jr. 6'4 Grad Transfer Javante Hawkins 5'11 Jr. D. Gitters 6'3 a Fr. and Seth Pickney a 7'1 Jr. They have 5'11 Dean a frosh and Sanogo 6'9 a So. as first off the bench. We should have a size advantage in this game.

FAU is a bit more impressive they are 5-1 with a game this Weds against Southern Alabama. Their schedule includes a loss to Ole Miss and a two point win over Florida. Their starting lineup is Nick Boyd 6'3 Fr., Jalen Gaffney 6'3 Jr., Vlad Guldin 7'1 So., Weatherspoon 6;4 Jr. and Gaines a 6'8 So. Michael Forrest a 6'1 senior seems to be the guy first off the bench.

Bump.

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - EMUGLORYDAYSthe90's - 11-30-2022 08:16 PM

Playing well now! Only down 40-42 vs FIU! We need to win this game for confidence!

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - EMUGLORYDAYSthe90's - 11-30-2022 08:37 PM

EMU 57-56! Rice with first points of the season! Big 3!

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - EMUGLORYDAYSthe90's - 11-30-2022 08:39 PM

EMU best game of the season, other then Michigan! Leading 62-61! Bates and Farrakhan both have 20! Exciting game!

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - emu steve - 11-30-2022 08:48 PM

Playing really good perimeter ball.

My opinion only:

FIU is not close to being as good as UCSD.

Emoni Bates is not close to being as good as Noah Farrakhan.

Jerry, we won 80-68! Scored 53 2nd half points after being down 27-35 at the half! Bates had 26 points, and Farrakhan 25 points!

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - EagleSam - 11-30-2022 09:07 PM

Much like last year, if Noah plays well, we either win or keep it close.

This team is so predictable, other than the level of effort (e.g., UofM, Oakland and the 2nd half tonight vs. other games).

Guys, i can save you from having to do the next dozen, score or hundred posts:

Perimeter players 71, power players 9.

I don't remember a team which is SO UNBALANCED. 71 points from the perimeter player!! Nine from the PF / C positions.

And if the game becomes a half court game we're screwed. We can't play a half court game.

I'll post Sunday's box score but I think it was SSDD. Our PF / C combined for 12 points.

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - RamyEMU - 11-30-2022 10:45 PM

Wow, thank god for a win finally!! Hopefully EMU can get something going from here.

Excellent info on the frontcourt production, Steve! I was expecting this to be the case before the season, but not nearly to this extent. I am also surprised because I really like all three of the main guys: Geeter, Golson, and Billingsley. I think/hope they will start clicking as the season goes on.

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - RamyEMU - 11-30-2022 10:51 PM

Interestingly, seems Emoni took some of the frontcourt minutes, as they played more of the natural guards (ie, Lovejoy with the start and Rice regretting the mix). That was akin Super’s idea to give credit where credit is due. (Do you think the coaches read this board?)

Speaking of Lovejoy, did anyone notice he had 4 fouls in 4 minutes of play. Never seen that before. He’ll learn…

I usually look forward to your analysis and insight. Kinda disappointed to only get one post from you on the game. Hopefully the team will captivate your interest more in the near future.

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - emu79 - 12-01-2022 12:12 AM

Nice game on the road especially being down at the half. Hopefully the beginning of a winning streak before conference play begins.

I’m feeling completely disinterested in basketball these days. And it has nothing to do with the slow start. I don’t think non-conference games mean much for 1-bid leagues.

I should be more excited about this team than any other since the late 90s. I just honestly don’t care. I don’t know these guys. I haven’t watched them develop for 3 or 4 years. They’re transient pilgrims. I’m not emotionally invested in their success nor connected to their stories.

And next year the roster will be completely different, again…

So far we, posters, were dead on about our 3 perimeter players. I believe the consensus was that we expected maybe 17.5 ppg from Emoni, 15 from Noah and say 12.5 from Tyson. That would be a '3-headed monster' 45 ppg.

Where we were off was the ability of our PF / C players to get their points, rebounds, blocks, etc.

In PPG our PF / C are #5, 7, 8, etc.

And drum roll, 04-chairshot, Emoni leads the team in BLOCKED SHOTS. He has 4 then next a bunch are at '2.'

And guess who the leading rebounder is? Yes, Emoni.

RE: Men's Basketball Florida Week - Miggy - 12-01-2022 07:35 AM

EMU relied on it's 4 best shooters-Noah, Emoni, Acuff, and Rice, to score yesterday may well be EMU's key to winning going forward. All four can both stroke the three-ball and get to the rim. Like to see them come out shooting from the get-go in games as see what happens. Playing up-tempo is EMU bb this season.

The Michigan game gave us a glimpse of how good EMU can be when both both Noah and Emoni are scoring well. Now Acuff and Rice are contributing as well.

Acuff found his consistently shooting in later games, and Rice who was hot at the end of last season, is being given minutes, allowing the EMU to ride it's hot hand. When Pranger return from his injury, EMU should be even stronger.

Good to see Bates playing some in the front court. Want to see more of that.

If EMU is to continue to win, other players will need to accept their roles. Lovejoy and Getter need to work on reducing their penchant for committing fouls.

EMU just beat a top 200 team and will play a top 100 team at home this Sunday afternoon. Hopefully, we'll see a second straight EMU win.

Agree.

If Emoni and Noah are firing on all cylinders and if we can get a running game going (#EasyBuckets) we'll do very well. OR if two of the big three (Emoni, Noah and Tyson) are 'on.' we can win. Of course, not every player is 'on' every night. All sports fans should know that. Shooters can score 20 points one night and eight the next.

So far we look like a team, when hot, can upset a real good team, and then lose to a dog when we can't make shots.

We can't win an ugly half court game. We can't defend a Hunter Dickinson or even a 2nd team all-MAC center.

Our team is built to run and get transition buckets and open threes. And try to speed up the opponent.

A lot of truth to this. I am onboard 100% this season because Emoni Bates is a generational type prospect, the likes of which we will probably never see again at Eastern but you are absolutely correct in that roster turnover in college sports is tiresome. Teams seems disjointed and patchwork. Hopefully this year's team comes together and the MAC portion of the season is fun and compelling. I don't even want to think about what next season looks like yet.

We seemingly have posters who think easy transfer is a freedom which should have been in the Bill of Rights. 03-lmfao

We have what players, and apparently most fans, WANTED.

This is like an all you can eat buffet in Vegas. Sounds great until someone consumes 3k calories in one meal and half of it are sugary deserts, etc. (tarts, cake, pudding, ice cream, pies, etc.). Sad to say, I've done that in Vegas.
