Eastern Michigan Football Eagles Co-MAC West and Michigan MAC Champions - Luckeyone - 11-25-2022 08:17 PM

I thought this great accomplishment really deserved its own thread because it really is quite significant for Coach Creighton and the entire EMU Eagles staff and players!

Congratulations!!!

Very well done. I was VERY critical of defense after the 50 bomb dropped on us at home by Buffalo but I'll give Neathery credit for changing up the defense.

I cannot stress enough how valuable Sparacio and Cline are to this defense. They were absolute difference makers and I'm telling you guys that if we didn't have them and had to rely on what we have in that LB room, we would very likely be 5-7. Congrats to them both and the defense overall.

CC and his staff have done a great job recruiting and what we are seeing are the 3 star classes that are now junior and seniors. Well done by all. It's been a fun season

I hope the athletic department prints T-Shirts capturing this awesome accomplishment because it’s a huge stepping stone for greater things to come in the future!!!

Yes, indeed. This was a great [/align]season! 8-4 record! Co MAC-West champs!

I really enjoyed the passion being displayed from Coach Creighton hoisting this trophy. I can sense some relief and so many good things coming on the horizon:

very well done. the players (evans and Powell) both spoke about changing the narrative about EMU football which is good but I always find it funny that people still think we are like a winless program these days. We have been to 4 bowls recently. lol Perhaps they are talking about getting over the hump and in to the 8-9 win category and if thats the case, I'm cool with that

I think the interviewers, Coach Creighton, Powel, and Evans all specifically referred to the eighth win being the most victories since 1987. So in that sense, this is clearly changing the narrative of Eastern Michigan football. And these guys and all the team should be PROUD of that!

You are so dead on about the linebackers! Speights, a two-year starter, is now third string on the depth chart.

RE: Eastern Michigan Football Eagles Co-MAC West and Michigan MAC Champions - Jerry Weaver - 11-26-2022 06:53 PM

The highlights of this season for me were the two games against our in-state rivals. We just plainly dominated both games

The NIU loss, as painful as it was, seemed to prompt a change in the coaching staff. The defense just got a whole lot better. Ball State was a tough win, Toledo a tough loss and Akron reminded me of a Creighton win over an inferior opponent from years past. Sit on the lead and then sweat out the victory. Typical of coach.

Then came Kent St. We were behind at the half and then dominated the game. With less than four minutes left, we were up by two scores and cruised to victory because Coach kept attacking. Then came Central, basically tied at halftime. We just plain kicked butt, the outcome was never in doubt, and we just kept on doing what it took to win the game, instead of trying to preserve the W. Great games for EMU.

Thank goodness for Taylor Powell! Also, for Austin Smith. Those two diametrically skilled QB's presented nightmares for opponent preparation. Powell can really spin it, I honestly think he is just as good a thrower as Ben Bryant. I like Austin but let's be honest, Taylor ABSOLUTELY gored both the CMU and WMU defenses in a way Smith would have not.

The forum was ready to cast aside C.C. and Powell and now they are heros.

Hero to goat to hero to goat. Repeat the laundry cycle.. oops, forum posting cycle.

Those who wanted to cast aside CC after every loss provided the worst takes ever on this board! Some of us also saw the value in Taylor Powell and his vitally important experience which really held this team together. This was a very important team and season in Eastern's quest for a future MAC championship.

So true. I guess the pitchforks and torches are back in storage until next season. I could be wrong here and usually am but this program I believe is in ascending mode on the field classroom and recruiting. Facilities needs a lot of work.

I sided blwith CC but also understood the criticism. I think even CC would admit ha needed to and did make changes. Having Buffalo drop 50 on us, increased penalties and strange play calling were all valid criticism points. Most importantly he made the changes needed to win and for that we can all celebrate. I love CC but let's not act like he was infallible this season at times.

Congrats to the team. I feel like for the 1st time since I started following the team that we are finally making the jump from good to 'top tier.'

I will second those thoughts.

I have no problem with folks questioning his performance mid-season. Getting run over between the tackles was indeed "getting old" after seasons of doing so. Let's also mention that Coach is indeed the highest paid person at EMU, criticism of him is hardly offensive in my opinion. I also could not support extending his contract long-term for .500 MAC records when we had just let Murphy go for achieving similar results.

I was actually pissed when after beating hapless Akron, Creighton became bowl-eligible and therefore got an automatic year extension. I was prepared to lose at Kent and at home to CMU. Coach, however, did the job and I salute him. He earned that extra year in those two games.
