EMU Football P K and Long Snappers - emu79 - 07-24-2022 08:46 AM

For several years Jake Julien and Chad Ryland developed into solid punters and kickers. We watch as Julien struggled early in his career as rugby kicks got blocked or Ryland missed key field goals. But they worked hard to improve and they will be missed. Julien benefited the defense with his punts pinning the opponent inside and Ryland was a scoring weapon and kickoffs were not returned.

Lets look at the placekicking battle first:

We have Oklahoma St transfer and Sr. Brady Pohl 6'2 220 who has some FBS playing experience.

Jesus Gomez 6'1 200 So. did some kickoffs last season and appears to have a strong leg.

Ivan Maric 6'0 195 is a true freshman walk on.

It should be an interesting battle between I think Gomez and Pohl.

Punting is interesting as we have 4 punters on the roster. None have punted in a FBS game. We have Mitchell Tomasek So. 6'4 215, true freshman Ryan Kingston 6'5 190, Adam Heston Jr. 6'1 210 and Blake Ochsendorf 6'6 220 Sr.
Hopefully one of these will develop into a consistent punter.

Whoever punts or placekicks will benefit from Steve Bird Sr. 5'10 230 who played all 13 games last year as long snapper. Zach Zoglio 6'0 200 a sophomore is his back up.

Big question marks for the 2022 season.

One thing about field goal kicking is if you miss, can you shake off the psychiatric hangover so it doesn’t hinder your next kick. I think this position is as much mental as it is physical.
