The SEC Has A Kill Shot: Do We Take It / Do We Make It - JRsec - 07-02-2022 05:30 PM

It's Notre Dame. They make more from joining the SEC than they will make anywhere else. It gives them all of the exposure to recruiting states they could ever hope to have. And it makes the SEC the supreme conference.

Why do I call it a kill shot? It so destabilizes things that obtaining Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, or anyone else, becomes a distinct possibility. They need the same recruiting access, the same money and exposure, and the same future certainty the Irish need. Remember NIL may be governed by a conference but not between conferences.

Want to play the best on equal footing? Then join the SEC. Toss in Clemson and FSU and some others and Boom! The Super Conference.

We've made an offer. So we've taken the shot. Now we wait. In the balance, whether they realize it or not, is the difference between a Super Conference with stability and a level playing field, or continued unrest.

We wait.

Wonder how much the Big Ten’s 7 year buy-in with reduced payouts will factor into their decision.

Notre Dame sounds like Arkansas. Back in the 70s Arkansas inquired the Big 8 about joining. Things turned out a lot better being in the SEC. Notre Dame, here's your chance.

Go outside the box. SEC invites Notre Dame and California- Berkeley.

Checkmate, BIG.

"Join us and make $80 million a year."

Allow me to give a general overview of what is likely.

1. You may join for football only and leave all other sports in the ACC in compliance with their GOR.

2. You will earn a full share of SEC media rights for football only.

3. ESPN will work your ACC 5 away games every 2 years into a longer period of time fulfilling the number but reducing the number to one a year. You may buy out any games you desire to lessen this obligation or simply fulfill it.

4. Since you are still members of the ACC for all other sports there is no exit fee.

5. They payout for all SEC media will be at 90 million in 2026. You will earn the football only share of it (roughly 80%) and anything which you add (think 7 million more per share). So ND's share should top out over 80 million with playoff money and bowl revenue, and they don't have to front 175 million to buy out the ACC.

Unconventional and affordable. With only 8 conference games, ND can still schedule USC, Stanford and NAvy yearly.

Further thinking about this, the less I like it. If conversations diving into this concept come to fruition, then Notre Dame and ESPN win the most with the 2 conferences involved receiving accommodation points. Thus a second conference becomes hybrid to co-appease Notre Dame. Frankly, I’d rather see a FT West Virginia, or Kansas, or Oklahoma State, for examples, in the SEC, rather than such groveling over Notre Dame. Surely, the SEC will be steadfast enough not to be suckered into enabling, by default, and have a result similarly evident of designs resulting in the old BE, and the ACC. That’s my opinion, but the imagery and lasting perceptions will linger indefinitely. Perhaps I am missing a big piece. I was thinking payoffs and new member bargaining.

ND needs to pay the ACC off what would be due, then hightail it to wherever they seek to go. If it is the SEC, welcome it.

The issue with the two bolded is one has the lowest valuation and smallest market in the P5 and the other while solid has no audience to speak of. BTW if ND wants to join in full great. They add. Anything else isn't the SEC way. This wreaks of ESPN.

Clemson and FSU/or Miami adds content value and ad leverage in Florida. UNC and Virginia Tech add the most dominant programs in states totaling ~21 million. Either way or all 4 is a win. Louisville earns the most and is competitive in all things but only nationally known in hoops.

From the ACC 4 of those should be where we look.
