2023 Football Recruiting - thanksjim - 05-10-2022 06:27 PM

The Kent State Golden Flashes are on the 2023 board x2 to open things up:

Javien Brownlee... Lots of MAC offers and UC was actually his first offer
Bryce Sheppert...Notre Dame College transfer with offer from Temple as well

Is Sheppert really 2023? Seems weird someone would transfer and sit out a year (I realize that statement would sound really weird a couple years ago). Looks like he's from Stow.

Good question, I was wondering the same thing. Transfers up or across always had to sit out a year, not sure if the new rules of 1 free transfer was only for laterals. And as a D2 transfer, perhaps he was on a partial scholarship and looking for a full ride, which really gets costly to the program to allocate a scholarship for a season they’re not eligible to participate in.

In 2021, the NCAA changed its student athlete transfer policy, effectively permitting the athletes in sports, like football and basketball, to transfer one time to another school with immediate eligibility and no longer require them to sit out for one year.

Andrew Marshall is on board. Several MAC offers plus Marshall (pun not intended):

The Football Gods are upon Kent State right now.

They are hosting a Mega Camp right now that sold out with over 2,000 participants and the weather is perfect. High 68 and sunny.

OL Chris Farrell is the first commit of the day.

Rumor.
The increased size of the marching band is a major reason for these players picking KSU.

Must be true, we seem to have more commits at this spot on the calendar than previous years.

You guys ….. not the band. , it was throwing away the HOF plaques and pasting names on the walls. Thats what separates KSU from the pack.
That and getting rid of Jeff Kurtz really gave recruiting a big boost.
