It's Time For A Big Ten-Big 12 Basketball Challenge - Transic_nyc - 03-26-2022 12:32 PM

The Big 12 is the better basketball conference right now. And then they're adding Houston and Cincinnati, two stories programs in the game; BYU, who's program has historically been competitive; and UCF, who's new to the game but has potential to move up. And then there's Kansas.

Imagine these matchups:

Kansas - Michigan

Iowa State - Iowa

West Virginia - Maryland

Texas Tech - Michigan State

Baylor - Purdue

TCU - Ohio State

Houston - Wisconsin

Kansas State - Nebraska

Cincinnati - Indiana

UCF - Rutgers

Oklahoma State - Illinois

BYU - Northwestern

I'd drop the ACC at this point.

I can’t see the original conference challenge going away.

I like the Gavitt games too.

Adding the Big 12 would be fun too.

Haven't been following this tournament, have you? Then again, I want to forget this tournament myself.

I'm hoping this tournament rejuvenates men's basketball in the ACC in the future. I have no desire to drop the ACC for the Big 12. I personally like the Big East better but agree the Big 12 is better (but ask me again if Villanova wins the national championship).

I suspect the Big East will switch from the Big Ten to the ACC. It would make sense from a geographic standpoint. The New Big 12 would be a different challenge but one that may help us in the tournament by understanding Big 12 strategies.

The Big 12 didn't exactly blow away the NCAA Tournament this year. Kansas made the Final Four but their path was pretty easy and they were their only Elite Eight team. Baylor was a #1 that got dumped in the 2nd round (although it was to North Carolina which made the Final Four). Purdue somehow lost to a #15 seed but was able to beat a Big 12 team in Texas. And last year even though Baylor won the national championship, #3 seed Texas lost to a #14 seed Abilene Christian, #4 Oklahoma State lost to #12 Oregon State, and #3 Kansas lost to in the 2nd round to USC.

In 2021, the Big Ten had just one team make it past the Sweet 16. We were terrible. You know how many Sweet 16 teams the Big 12 had last year? ONE. The difference was the one won the national championship. So that's why we need to "understand Big 12 strategies" because of one team? No doubt Kansas is a better team than anyone in the Big 10 and Baylor, despite their early exit, is better. I don't think Texas Tech, Iowa State, or these other schools are better than Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue, or Wisconsin.

I would like to see Ohio State-Cincinnati. And for Rutgers, I would like to have BYU. One of my favorite memories as an student was when Rutgers played BYU in the ECAC Holiday Classic at Madison Square Garden. I remember our SF Mike Jones dunking over and posterizing Shawn Bradley. I laughed then and cried later when my 76ers drafted Bradley #1 overall.
